Not just there but in speculative fiction literature for many decades, but I still find it fascinating that while I see a word with multiple meanings, others only can accept a single meaning.

I recognize other meanings but just wanted to mention that not all do.

Good on you, Roger.

This is definitely a great forum, today I learned a new word; with all of its meanings. Thank you.

I agree, but I might also append the word "new".

"New" is implied in that statement; if you learn something, then that "item/thing" is new, at least to you.

Possibly...probably...except for AD patients.

Very nice conversation. Becoming acquainted with so many varied views, on such a variety of topics, is scintillating (used in at least six different meanings.)

God had Moses write the answer down Roger. If I knew what bible you use I would give it to you from your bible. Not knowing I will use a bible approved by the Catholics.

Genesis 4:16 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)

16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod,[a] east of Eden.

Footnote a:
Genesis 4:16 That is Wandering

"Nod" (נוד) is the Hebrew root of the verb "to wander" (לנדוד). Therefore, to dwell in the land of Nod means that one takes up a wandering life.

Cain did not join a tribe, he became a wanderer.

You yourself said:

Your not getting answers to your questions is Satan's way of drawing you away from God, Roger. He confuses the clergy so they cannot answer the simplest of questions.

When you do get an answer, being told it is an "interpretation" is also Satan's way of casting doubt in your in your mind, again drawing you away from God.

I always tell people, "Don't listen to me, read it in your Bible." May I suggest that you get your Bible out and read Genesis 4:16?

Wayne,
What brought on my question was that I was taught that Adam and Eve were the first two people and they had two sons, one of which killed his brother.
He was made to leave. If, as many were taught, there was only Adam and Eve and, at that time, their two sons, where did that other tribe come from?
IMHO many churches still evade that question.

I agree with you, Roger, fully, on that point about the family (human family) of FOUR.

What purpose was there in marking Cain at all, if there were FOUR people on the Genesis Earth: Adam; Eve; two brothers: Cain; Abel; then, one less = THREE people = humanity. Who else was there to see a marked murderer?

AND, if Eve was the lone woman, with whom were the other humans made, one could ask, especially if one were to accept such passages in The Bible as literal, historical accounts? (I have heard some stories say there were sisters of Cain and Abel. That makes the questions worse!

That's a pondering I have considered since I was a boy. But it doesn't matter, since I concluded, early in my adulthood, that the story was made by a group of people who thought their little corner of the World was all there was, ignorance due to a lack of awareness of the entire Western Hemisphere, at the very least, that is. They didn't know. They dealt with what they had in front of them.

Further example: Even literature by a culture (Sumerian, 2nd millennium B.C.) different from the one that produced the Hebrews had a written piece of literature about The Flood. That was "The Epic of Gilgamesh." The Noah story coincides, in time and place, with significant parallels, on the occasion of a (so-called) "worldwide" flood. Anthropological and archeological evidence supports both accounts, stating that a post-Ice Age polar melting created a rush of water, at one point, from the Arctic down thru to the Mediterranean, opening Gibraltar up much further, with the resulting rush of water - Flood - making its way to the Black Sea at the far end, in the Middle East. Sunken communities have been seen and approached under the water, along the previous coast line.

Rather than focusing on any of that, necessarily, though occasionally, at each Sunday's Mass, my attention has always been primarily on the New Testament, for the new, Good News.

You're over-analyzing a morality tale and fable.

You are exactly correct in that it is a morality tale. But your are incorrect that I am "over-analyzing." That's what we former college undergrads do, we question and search and sometimes find stuff out, for ourselves. There is no "over." Rather, some intellectual exercise and religious questioning, none of which is bad or, in my case, can possibly be overly done. I do what is comfortable for me and find my own answers and reasons for precepts that were once shoved at me as Dogma, subject only to punishment and being called sinful if not unquestioningly obeyed. Well, those days are long, long gone; I question. It is enjoyable, and it is refreshing. Also, I enjoy that my fellow forumites allow me the honor of expressing some of these musings here, on MTJ.

Sure there is - after you and the uncounted host have knowingly beaten the horse to death you are allowed to stop and move on to other questions that might actually have answers rooted in more than speculation.
