Never question a Drunk!
Re: Never question a Drunk!
Most of us know that is not true but why is it so funny?

Is it funny?
Its message/implication has not been my experience whatsoever.

Well I blew it again.
Why is it so funny to those two ladies. is what I meant to say.

I think the answer to your question, there, is that since the ladies have on blue medical clothing, they are nurses or assistants and have the experience of knowing that no doctor comes quickly to care for a patient. Their laughter is snide, since telling a patient to look forward to the doctor's help soon is untrue.
That's the factor I was taking exception to in its entirety, having only had very quick, responsive care from all the caregivers involved when I have presented myself at ER's for a couple years, now, on a couple occasions.
I suppose the author of that piece had different experiences than I and felt he or she would be speaking to a wide, skeptical, unhappy audience that would "get" the sarcastic "joke" of it.

Re: Never question a Drunk!
You go into a doctor's office with a 10:00 AM appointment. You check in early, sign whatever papers are necessary, make your co-payment, and have a seat. Then at 10:15, they call your name, take you to a little exam room, get your vitals, and tell you the doctor will be right in to see you, and then at maybe 11:00 the doctor comes in and devotes all of 5 minutes to you. That's how it always works for me.

Pay on entrance? Nice..... I at least get to do the co-pay as I depart...
Pretty much the rest if the same for me except there's a 15 min wait in the little exam room before someone takes the vital, and then I rarely actually see the doctor, but rather get a PA.

My last trip to the ER the wait to see an actual MD was quite long; I concede everything and everyone else was relatively rapid, but the MD was long in coming and fleetingly short in staying.
I actually doubt you will get a nurse, etc stating a specific time for anything - "soon" seems to be the preferred word since it has no actual clock attached to it.

In my elderliness I've had the need to get to the local ER on several occasions. Wait times depend on how serious the ER thinks your problem is, My most recent visit, after a minor stroke, resulted in immediate! treatment. Other times, whilst the ER personnel dealt with Mexico's contributions....were unfortunately quite long. Alleviation of pain is not high on the list.

Re: Never question a Drunk!
My experience, a couple years ago, during a sojourn, solo, to Upstate NY, convinced me of the value and skill of one hospital in particular: Cortland Hospital.
After a post-hike luncheon, I began vomiting. By nighttime, the vomiting had lessened, but it had become accompanied by frightening pain in the center of my chest, which by early morning, had radiated to my left shoulder and center of my back. I got very scared and told the motel front desk I was driving myself to the nearby hospital.
When I hobbled into the ER, I announced I thought I was having a heart attack. Immediately, I got rushed, on-the-spot, into one of those cubicles, interviewed, briefly, and promptly rolled into several subsequent rooms for tests, such as a CAT Scan.
When returned to the original draped-room in the main ER suite, the Head Nurse asked me if I could tell her more about what I had experienced in the motel room. When I replied that I had been vomiting profusely, she took particular notice and said I was likely not having a heart attack but that it sounded like I was having gall bladder problems. She rushed out of the cubicle and immediately returned with a female doctor, who upon further conversation, said they were readying the Operating Room for me immediately.
I felt that everybody had paid very close attention to me and to what I was saying and was ready to act for positive results.
That was one of several very, very positive experiences in hospitals for me.

Maybe it's just a Western Pennsylvania thing, Rufus, or maybe it's a Highmark or UPMC thing here, but you ain't gettin' outta that waiting room and in until you pay your money. Keeriste! It's like takin' the dog to the Emergency Vet when somethin' happens on a weekend and your regular vet is closed. They won't look at your animal without a check or a credit card.

The only faster way to get attention is to have someone bringing you in telling them you might have had a stroke.

Check out today's Google Home page. It's the new darling of the media, the Socialist from NewYork that beat out the 5 term incumbent to run for the House of Representatives. Guess we know where Google's head is at now. A show of support for the type of person who will someday destroy their capitalist empire. I don't know how to do a screen shot and post it, but it is quite clear who they mean.

No, it's not. It's María Rebecca Latigo de Hernández who was born on July 29, 1896

Looks like a perfect caricature of the airhead from NY to me.
