Years ago I was in the enclosed EBT water tower where the shipping address was clearly visible on the boards of the tank.

A couple of years later those boards had been removed.


A couple of years ago I was watching a motorcycle restoration program where the guy bought a 1912 Thor board track racer. Included in the deal was the shipping crate with the original railroad shipping tags still attached. The buyer really lit up when he saw that because it gave him a history of the races the bike had been in.

Ok, that actually has a real tangible connection to the actual bike and history - I can see that adding real value, provenance, etc.

I'm not disinclined to agree with you at the price tag - I already have a nice shipping crate with very nice markings on it, but the real problem with it is jut what do you do with it, where to put it, etc. It's been on the one porch in Pa for years storing the lawn chairs.....and I paid under $10 for it.

Rufus, Just curious what kind of lettering is on your crate? I'm thinking a piece of railroad property might be a bit more carefully/professionally done, say a stencil or some such. I like the price of your crate a lot more, and it is at least, useful!

It's nicely stenciled with the company name and contents: "O'alls" I got it at my great-uncles estate sale; came in on the RR to the family store in town so from the rail terminus by wagon. Not sure where it had been stored at the farm all those years; very clean and complete. Unfortunately, stuff like this has gotten totally crazy on price and I rarely can afford anything connected to the local RR's anymore.
