I agree with both your statements.

I realize that I am not innocent of irritating some members by quoting bible scripture when it seems to fit a discussion. So far I have been pleasantly surprised by the light criticism that I have received for doing so. Any other model train forum would have booted me off for bringing religion into a discussion. If anyone threatened to leave because of my going out-of-bounds, I would leave religion out of all my MTJ posts.

I am reminded of the time Jesus got the boot.

Just east of the Sea of the Sea of Galilee Jesus met a man who called himself, "Legion." Under demon influence, the man, who said his name was Legion, walked about naked, and day and night he cried aloud and slashed himself with stones. Like politics, I do not mind religious comments. A religion is a bit like an opinion, and I am full of those.

What bothers me about both topics is when a participant in a discussion makes it clear that his/her religion or politics is the only correct version. That is what makes either topic deadly.

Rufus has voiced a couple of opinions.

A single line of scripture is "cherry picking."

I love the cherries.

Bible is just a "feel good" book. Or maybe he said, Religion is just a "feel good" thing.

There is a bible passage on that opinion, "For there is going to come a time when people won’t listen to the truth but will go around looking for teachers who will tell them just what they want to hear."
