I am daily outraged by Congress' corruption, actions and inactions. The thing is, Congress has always been this way, going back to the War of Independence, when it could be inferred that the Continental Congress did its best to lose the war. What to do? Short of replacing the body politic with something better, we endure. And work to do better*. Throwing up ones hands isn't going to help.

I grew up and lived it California for 30 years. A much different place today than when I lived there.

Wrong again, Mitch. By the way unless you lived in California, I can absolutely guarantee I voted for Ron Reagan more times than you, in fact I voted the Republican ticket right up until 1992 when the Republican party walked away from conservative values. My hatred is of the hypocrisy and hubris contained within modern "conservatism", perhaps if conservatives returned to the values they extol instead of spending all their time on character besmirchment and twisted messages, they might actually get something done in this country.

How about the government living within it's means? How about actually honoring the rule of law instead of whatever gets us what we want at the moment. How about being honest with the citizenry? How about working across the aisle instead of automatically finding a way to be against everything and anything, irregardless of who came up with the idea. How about having the integrity and honesty to call your own fellow Republican's out when they're in the wrong? How about running on your own merits instead of whatever a party functionary tells you to say? When Bob Dole retired, the last real Republican left Washington. These folks now are just a bunch of opportunists and con artists regurgitating whatever pablum they've been fed by their handlers.

I said this earlier but I think I have learned more about the workings of our contemporary government on this forum than anywhere else.
It seems to me, of course I could be wrong, that the posters on these subjects are sincere and honest with their answers.
Can't say that about what I see, read and hear on the major media outlets.

Republicans being fiscal conservatives went out the door back in the 90s during the Clinton presidency. If anyone recalls they tried to hold the line and ended up shutting down the government. They took a hell of a beating over that one and learned you don't shut down the government. The American people won't stand for it and the Democrats will beat you up over it.

Look at what happened recently when the Government was shut down for 3 days. The Dems got the blame for that one even though they tried to blame Trump.

So both sides will continue to kick the can down the road.

Any new person to congress will spend the first month figuring out how the game works and the rest of their term fund raising to get re-elected. It will never change.

Look at how popular Bernie was during the primaries with his "everything FREE in America Slogan"

The American people have learned they can vote money out of the public coffers......
