Thanks Frank! I do plan to put some brush and overgrowth in front of the arch. In fact, the real arch has a lot of growth in front of it. So much so, that I didn't realize the arch is actually blocked up!

Thanks, this photo is a rough approximation of what I want to do. I want to join the face of the arch with the vault by using a ring of stones. On the face, they will look like a "rim" at the edge of the vault. Inside the vault, I want to line up stone ends to match the "rim". I will have to cut individual blocks and match seams. I hope this description makes sense.

If I can pull it off, it will be the most precise piece of modeling I've ever done.

George,
I understand but I think the underside of the arch blocks are running the wrong way as shown.
I think from front to back not bottom up and over the arch. It will need to be pieced in.
Not one nice curve. :(

Yeah, like I feared, I didn't describe this very well. Here's a real example of my artistic skills.

Here's what I hope the arch's "rim" will look like.

Inside the vault, I will mate the rim to the pieces running the wrong way. On the face of the arch, I will cut the underlying facing to match the rim. Anyway, that's the plan, however dimwitted.

Have you ever tried to make your block walls from foam board. Once you remove the foil backing it is easy to scribe blocks into it.

Foam board? I need a better idea of what that is.

It's a tinfoil backed foam sheet. Peel off the tinfoil and go to town carving. Later on i'll post some links of things made from it.

Updated 4/9/2018:

Here's what's been going on:
  • Lumber for the Staging Area arrived last Wednesday, but it's been a little too cold to work in the garage.
  • I created a pedestal for the bridge shoes on the base of the Stone Arch. It's a beveled piece of wood that I painted.
  • I've created an electrical wiring plan that includes the 7 new districts, their assigned power sources, and track feeder pairs (87).
  • All 33 switches have been allocated among 3 switch buses (DZ-2001's) - 8, 13, and 12 respectively. These bus lengths are well within the maximum distance permitted by the specification.
  • I identified the number and placement of signals (9 DZ-1060s PRR 7-light position signals, and 2 MTH PRR signal bridges) on the plan.
  • Picked up needed several tools, including a crimper, small gauge wire stripper, and digital caliper.
  • Finalized items that I'm selling at York next week.

Rufus - see you at the 2-Rail show in Strasburg on SATURDAY!

OMG, I'll be all over.

However, I am planning a minute of silence at Murph's old booth in Orange Hall.

I will be in front of the Orange Hall 30 minutes before opening (11:30 AM) on Thursday. I'm delivering some items people have purchased.

He will be wearing a blue & grey hound's tooth suit with vest, and a light blue shirt with French cuffs, brown shoes, blue socks, and a black Homberg. He will be holding 3 balloons in his left hand. Approach him from his left and ask, "Have the swallows returned to Capistrano?". If he replies, "No, but I have a hamster in my pocket.", then you have located George.
