Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt was a Prussian polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and influential proponent of Romantic philosophy and science. I can not find any reference to F. W. H. A. von Humbolt having said the quotation on your school. There was more than one von Humbolt in Prussia, maybe it was his brother who said it?

I couldn't find it attributed to either Wilhelm or his brother Alexander. Wilhelm was the Prussian minister of education for a while, and had some ideas about education.

The only other thing I found was a similar quote attributed to Confucius.

Obviously, I do not know how or where you arrived at such a view of education and teaching. I don't know how much of what you said I believe.

I though it would be interesting to post it on the forum to see what kind of a reaction I would get. I was not disappointed.

Sweeping generalities and bumper-sticker remarks are always susceptible to question (even that was a generality !!!) so I made my remarks limited to a personal experience on the subject.

It has been said among some teachers that since everybody went to school at some time in their lives, everybody thinks they are specialists in what teaching and education should be. However, having the courage and ability to pick up that baton is another matter, just like, I would imagine, picking up the tools for surgery take a whole lifetime of skills to learn, develop, and succeed.

See the boxes they are packing with fruit? My grandfather used the wood from similar boxes to create the sailing ship and steamer. The sailing ship dates from approximately 1939.

People love seeing what they grew up with.
