There are also videos of her doing Mozart and Stravinsky, some with her directing, some not. I am impressed with her singing that material and also directing.

The playfulness of the performances (outstanding) really adds another dimension to the entire event.

You'd almost have to meet her to know if this is only an act (her performance) or if she really is the spook she portrays. Sorry, her behavior bugs the sh*t out of me. I can't get past it.

I loved David Steinberg and many others who were animated and unorthodox (at the time) in their performance and could even appreciate Andy Kaufmann at 1st, but if this performance is really who this lady is, then.........................We have spooks apparently invading every walk of life.

Disclaimer: I could only watch maybe 30-40 seconds of this, so maybe it gets better.

Beats the snot out of the standard formal standing still in the formal gown doing the standard dreary formal performance at the front of the stage. Almost all when faced with attending formal performances of vocal music wish it would end before it even starts. And, as much as I will listen to recordings, attending it a true rarity for me, but I'd go see her - that complexity of music and vocal combined with a bit of comedic performance art becomes entertainment.

Can't disagree with that on any level. I can't think of anything more boring than sitting through most operas.
But, just because it's not my cup of tea, doesn't mean it lacks merit.

Opera. I despise opera, as much as I love most other forms of classical music. Other than the Overture, or an Aria orChorus here and there. Read the libretto of almost any opera and the reaction is *WHAT?* What dreck.

It's rare that I can even listen to one in it's entirety -- the high points and the rest bores me to tears.

However, I did like "Nixon in China" and had a copy of the world premier performance on the old reel to reel tape........and I liked Einstein on the Beach, but very few other 20th century opera is remotely listenable. I keep copies of Berg's Wozzeck and Lulu available whenever I want to clear the house - there's nothing like 12-tone atonal German opera to empty a house faster than yelling skunk or fire!

I find Glass to be quite calming actually and you've probably heard his works w/o even being aware of it in commercials and other locations.

Engaging the audience in some manner would seem to be an obvious consideration vs. the total passive we play up here on the the stage and you sit out there.

Your threshold for pain is much higher than mine maybe I could get into it if she did it as a baritone. Sort of a classical version of Mrs. Miller Puts me in mind of a scalded cat.
