Sad, but true - we do a fair job of exporting our own brands of corruption and fraud. We will never know where the billions sent into Iraq starting 15 years ago even went, but you can bet very little of it arrived or stayed in Iraq.

I'm not trying to be snarky here, but, I do wonder how many of you have spent any significant time actually beyond our borders. The opportunity to keep advance infrastructure in place around the world is part of what makes the US the undisputed No.1 military power in the world. This is our stuff, parked on their land, and the locals are just as NIMBY/suspicious of it's presence as American's would be about, for example, a Bolivian Army advance base parked in upstate New York just in case the Canadian's decide to attack them or their "allies". Most of the foreign aid could be viewed as rent. If you are in favor of further withdrawal from the world stage, I sure PRC and RF will be quite happy to take the USA's place at the table. Opportunities once lost are rarely regained without pain. And yes Murph, other countries do pitch in, France was in Haiti before the US got there following the earthquake. The Koreans and Australians fought by our side all through our Vietnam engagement. Even the PRC has humanitarian missions all over the world. It's a big world and should be viewed as such. As for that Montana "utility" that got the PR electrical grid contract, if you can't smell the corruption in that deal, blow your friggin' nose!

I used to spend a good bit of time traveling outside the US. Have not for several years, but that will probably change this year.

You do have to watch those Canadian's............ Mayo on everything.....just not right,

Used to be that we spent a lot of effort aiding countries just to keep up with the Russians and the PRC -- seems that folks have forgotten why that might be important to do but would rather crawl back in their holes and pretend that the rest of world doesn't exist or matter.

Good to have learned, from you, Tom. Thank you.

And it is "a big world and should be viewed as such," so I am going to continue to wonder which other countries are involved with aid to other countries. Anybody else have further knowledge on this matter of the sharing of giving aid to the big world?
Thanks again, Tom.

I taught and lived in the following countries: Austria; France; England; Italy, so that experience did not afford me any real perspective on the infrastructure and economic conditions of non-European countries, on countries that need everybody's help at having such basics as better food, clean, fresh water, proper sewage, and better schooling, for example .

This is some insightful information to have read here, Tom, providing a perspective which, at best, I might only have imagined to be the case. Thank you.

Mayo on everything

Mainly a Quebec oddity. Not so prevalent by the time you get to Ontario and pretty much gone when you get to Western Canada.
Once I built a railroad, I made it run,
Made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?

The Canadians. They walk among us. William Shatner. Michael J. Fox. Monty Hall. Mike Meyers. Alex Trebek. All of them Canadians. All of them here. Think of your children pledging allegiance to the maple leaf. Mayonnaise on everything. Winter 11 months of the year. Anne Murray - all day, every day. Like maple syrup, Canada's evil oozes over the United States.

I'm sure that somewhere in the bowels of the Puzzle Palace, some ignobly assigned second louey is updating/maintaining the invasion plans.

What happened to all those celebrities that said they were going to move to Canada if Trump won.

Have they moved yet. :?:

They were Canadian citizens already.

So Canadians come to this country to make millions of dollars and then bitch about it.

I can understand why they would be upset with Trump. They might lose all their cheap help. Nanny's and gardeners.
