I'm talking the sort of chug-a-lug drinking that kills fraternity pledges. Otherwise known as acute alcoholism.

Well....haven’t made it to the ABC store yet.

My kitchen cabinets are in place, just waiting on the countertop and dishwasher. The guy came over yesterday with his laser machine and measured so they could cut the granite.

I stayed busy today putting in shelves where I think they should go and moving appliances back in place.

Hopefully the countertop will come next week so the plumber can hook the sink up, the dishwasher won’t be here until December 29th :(

I’m going to try to get to the ABC store tomorrow on the way to the golf course

Got a bottle of Knob Creek Rye, 100 proof last night. It was just over $30.

Whew, tastes pretty good, a bit spicy. Got a pretty good kick too, makes my cheeks warm

I had to cut it with some Ginger Ale or I couldn't type this if I had a drink beforehand  my "drinking" days are over, if there ever were any

Anyway, thought I'd let you folks know

I can't comment on the Rye, but I did try Knob Creek Bourbon, and I'd just as soon drink Jim Beam, which is cheaper. That info and a buck will get you a coffee! :D

When I was experimenting with alcohol, I drank Bacardi 151 rum. I found I had to cut it with soda, to render it remotely palatable. These days, Everclear grain alcohol is available, that is 190 proof. Also, some vodkas and quadruple scotches are similarly strong. They should get you thoroughly shitfaced in minimal time.

NOT my goal by a LONG shot. If I have a good time I like to remember it! Months go by without drinking anything with alcohol in it, and I can't remember the last time I was in a bar. I've had a bottle of Sam Adams Octoberfest in the fridge for over a year.

I don't drink at all. Just thought it was interesting that they sell almost pure alcohol, these days.

My last Dr. checkup she asked if/how much do I drink. I think my answer was 1 beer/week on average.

I used to work with a guy that said he drank almost a case of beer nightly!!! By his actions I believed him

Nowadays more than 1 drink usually gives me a headache

This bottle of Rye will most likely go bad before I finish it.

I have a bottle of Um here. Just like your rye it will last for ever. My wife uses it in a fig paste for uncooked fig cookies. Um is not a typo. When Czechoslavakia separated . Czech people got Rum. Slovakia got Um.

In my experience distillers typically originated making a certain type of liquor. If you want bourbon buy from a distiller that has a long track record making bourbon. Likewise rye, scotch, gin, rum, vodka, etc. Companies that make everything tend to have products that are mediocre at best and excel at nothing...they're just looking to fill shelf-space at the local liquor store. Using this strategy also cuts through the baloney pricing strategy, i.e. not buying based on brand-name and paying a premium for an inferior variation. If Maker's announces tomorrow their new line of rum at $60 a bottle I wouldn't be jumping in that line...

If it's like in the grocery world, distillers are probably paying for shelf space to have their wares displayed. Pretty fair chance that gets passed on to the consumer.

Here's one for you: When I was a kid, I liked a candy named "Southies", a rectangular solid, green colored, mint flavored item made by "The Squirrel Nut Company". A while back, I took notice that almost all the old penny candy from when I was a kid still existed/was available. Turns out the "Southie" had been acquired from the Squirrel Nut Company by NECCO (New England Confectionery Company). The local grocery that I shopped at carried a bunch of Necco products, but NOT the "Southie, whose name had permutated over the years from "Southie" to "Squirrel Nut Mints" to "Mint Julep Candy". I asked the local grocer to order some and even though they carried a bunch of Necco stuff, they said they could not get them. About 6 months later (around Saint Patrick's Day) they magically appeared, only to disappear once that batch was sold out.

Last I knew, they could be had from an online retailer out in Murph's old stomping grounds (McKeesport), but I haven't tried to order any lately because the cost of shipping makes them rather expensive! It ain't easy being nostalgic!

I always thought liquor had an indefinite shelf life, but I read that it will go bad after a while, depending on what it is. Said Vodka lasted the longest, but I think I've got a bottle of Absolute that has turned. Of course it's been opened for probably 6-7 years and has about 1/4 of it left in the bottle!!!

When I was a kid they had a candy bar out called Seven Up. Each of the 7 pieces had a different filling, kinda like a box of chocolates joined together :D

My favorite that is still obtainable is Bridge Mix, almost like Seven Up but separate :?

In pa. booze is still sold buy state owned stores. They don't offer a discount for larger volume bottles. This makes it easy to buy only small bottles. Less waste. Also cuts down on open half filled bottles going stale over time.

I've heard that lead-crystal quality decanters, even such as those made by Waterford or Baccarat, leach actual lead into their liquor contents eventually, or even right at the start. Does anybody know if this is true?

We keep rye, bourbon, and some scotches in ours.
