It remains an impressive and mystifying phenomenon - people swallowing stuff. Children are one thing, but when it's not children, I'm thinking this is a clear case for some required serious sit down with a person in a white coat that can medicate you senseless.

Well, yes, I have seen some adults put amazing things into their mouths, even swallowing, too.

.....such as oysters, and mussels, and locusts, and tarantulas, and cicadas, and octopi tentacles....need I go on? (I realize my eating habits are totally narrow-minded and provincial; even my wife eats a far larger variety of foods than I.)

Those are at least known to be edible. It's the consumption of items clearly non-edible that surprise most folks.
