It would be interesting to know what speed they hit down the straights. Regardless, large stones required...

Middle of the pack speed at the end of the long chutes at Indy the last few years of riding mechanics, about 160.

I can't imagine 160 in that contraption. A broken spoke and you're into the fence (if there was one), whatever's left of you. For these babies the crumple-zone was your chest.

Here's a list of books and magazine articles related to the "Golden Age" of American motor racing:

http://www.milleroffy.com/Books.htm

Using the index at the top left of the page will get you to a lot of info and pictures of Miller race cars.

A surprising number of cars from this era are available as 1/25 scale resin kits.

That car door exemplifies one of the many things I like about this forum. I see things I would never have seen otherwise; in fact, I've seen things I could not even have imagined on my own. Great! :D

Murph,
Many years ago in the dark ages when I was in high school, a teacher told me to write a specific sentence.
I never did learn if it was possible.
Here is the sentence and my attempt, "There are three ways to write (2). Now write that sentence."
What would you wright, right, write?
I don't think it is possible to write the (2) sentence in a completely correct way.
Please advise. Murph. Somebody. Anybody,
roger

If I understood you correctly, here are my suggestions:

* There are three ways to write "2". (Placed inside quotation marks.)

* There are three ways to write 2. (Italicized.)

* There are three ways to write the numeral two. (Written as the word for the numeral/number.)

He told you, verbally, to write "(2)"? Literally, with parentheses and numeral?

The number (2) may be written as "two," "2," or "II."
NOTE--The last (2) is the Roman Numeral 2 written as two capital "i's."

Actually I could not figure how to write it, I used (2) because it was the easiest way.
The teacher was referring to the following.
To.
Too.
Two.

Oh brother, that's it? Then. where is the sentence that was requested? You wrote, "...a teacher told me to write a specific sentence."

But everybody knows that. So where was the challenge? Where is the sentence?
