More Photobucket

Postby Rufus T. Firefly » Tue Nov 07, 2017 8:03 am

Well, I got an e-mail from Photobucket last night that notified me that I had 30 days to upgrade my account. This is totally counter to their own Terms of Service which clearly states that my Plus20 account is grandfathered in through Dec 2018. Apparently, Photobucket is not going to honor its own ToS so it's now time to migrate all of my photos elsewhere to another service. Can't imagine how they are going to stay in business when the ToS are a moving target and are just going to be ignored.

I've found a few other services that I rather like and am playing with to test out organization and operability. But, I'm thinking that I might just go buy my own hosting space and maybe later then be able to get a domain name for my own web site(s) and just have all of the flexibility that I need through that option. In the meantime, my photos here are all going to disappear over the next 3 weeks.

I got myself a 'free' Fickr account but I expect that will go the route of Photobucket eventually. The effort by these companies to monetize their product is understandable, although in the case of Photobucket a bit over-the-top.

I got a hosting service via Arvixe a while back for business purposes...might see if that could be used for storage/sharing.

I don't begrudge a reasonable fee for reasonable service; this is the end of Photobucket for me. I found Flickr to be cludgy and convoluted to use. As that's under the Verizon umbrella, I suspect its days as a for free operation are numbered.

Please drop me a note on how that works out.

The desirable clients don't care what is being done to free and low paying clients. Photobucket will be happy to lose you Rufus. [opinion]

You have 30 days to upgrade at the current price rate. After 30 that rate increases. They are giving you the chance to pay 2017 rates for dec 2018-nov 2019. I get some crazy emails from them everyday. "We are sorry about you problems trying to upgrade. We had so many people taking advantage of our great prices that our website froze. Please fix except our apologies and take another $5.00 off your upgrade " I never tried to upgrade.

Well, well, well.............

Just got a response from Photobucket..........

Thank you for reaching out to us about this. In regards to the email you received, we have decided to make an exception for your account. You will be able to stay on your current Plus 20 subscription and will not need to upgrade your account at this time.

As stated in our current Terms of Use, you will continue to be grandfathered into 3rd Party Hosting capabilities until the end of December 2018 or when your subscription ends in 2019, whichever comes last.

We apologize for the confusion and any inconvenience this may have caused. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this.

Photobucket has learned to fear Rufus T. Firefly, leader of the small, bankrupt country of Freedonia. No doubt they realized winning a lawsuit for breach of contract against Photobucket could save Freedonia and bankrupt Photobucket.

Lawsuit! Lawsuit! Lawsuit!

In the best of intentions and having learned our lessons well from the Grand Duchy of Fenwick, Freedonia declared war!

We will of course accept reparations now.....

Let me consult with Tully Bascombe and see what we can come up with on that for you.

If the Little Rocket Man would just do us all a favor and take a "Dirt Nap", things could move along much more smoothly in that part of the world.
