You're right. Now that you mention those days and places, It was the same for me in the Pittsburgh area. And yes, we used to do the same thing when we found a really good leaf, taking it to school.

The most amazing leaves I ever saw were, as an adult, when I vacationed in Upstate NY, where the colors are usually blazing and a riot around this time of year.
