MR changes finally public

I am perplexed as why O scale modelers cut from any cloth care about the goings on at MR. It's effectively limited to HO and to be a monthly advertising platform and very little else. There are O scale publications that fill the needs and interests of O scale modelers. Perhaps supporting those is for the best.

change it one place and it is changed in all and all past names are gone?

Oh yes, I have been reading OST for 10+ years and find it more enjoyable than CTT or OGR.
It does not have all the 3R advertising but it sure has better articles.Lots of how to build
things that will work in O scale regardless of rail number.

Have OST & OGR subscriptions.

In distant past, found MR indispensable regardless of scale. Less and less so in recent times. Not the same organization or magazine it was under Al Kalmbach. Different attitude, different atmosphere, different orientation. Al Kalmbach had genuine desire to advance hobby by helping hobbyists. Get the feeling now it's more about finding shortcuts and easy ways to increase sales. Space filling columns with musings on the state of the hobby and other fascinating subjects. Where's the meat?

Realize there are challenges for all print media but MR is good at shooting themselves in the foot. Appears they have too much administrative (no value added) overhead including bean-counters calling the shots.

MR stopped being useful to me in the late 70's and RMC became far more valued.

I never sunscribed to the former and discontinued the latter a few years ago when I realized that I was not actually even reading it anymore.

All Model Railroader teaches us anymore is how to spend a godzillion dollars on premanufactured supplies that could otherwise be processed by the modeler from inexpensive, if not free raw materials. Their 4x8 project layouts for beginners easily borderline 3 or 4k to build. Enough to scare off 90% of the would be beginners who are looking to spend 400 bucks. Can you do it for 400 bucks? With the right resources you absolutely can. They wonder why their subscription base is dropping off and blame it on the economy. The internet. Aging railfans who are dying off.

I remember when Sarge ran an article about a three rail layout in O Scale Trains that brought some of the nastiest letters to the editor that I have ever seen.

What if you bought a magazine titled "Dogs" and opened it up to find pictures of, and articles about: CATS?
I didn't send in any of the nasty grams, nor do I condone them, but I don't think a 'scale' magazine should be covering 3 rail. There are ample 3 rail mags out there already doing it.
