Message from MK
Today @ 4:30 PM I received a message with no subject listed from MK.
I don't think I know an MK or do not recognize the initials and I am just a little concerned about opening it.
If it is someone I know I don't want to upset them nor do I want to get involved in any problems.
I can't afford a "ransom".
If anybody has any suggestions let me know. My thoughts right now is to erase it.

Roger,
If I received such a message, my first order of business would be a hard delete.
that is, hold down the shift key while pressing the delete button.
(Added --> (...AFTER hightlighting the message/text.))
If the message is important, the other party will use another means to contact you.
You asked, that is what I would do.

I agree with Myron. The blank subject line is suspicious.
Torturers, White Racists, Gay Bashers, Rich Psychopaths.

Roger,
If you want to know what it says, forward it to me. I receive junk mail all the time. I always open the first one. Some are pretty amusing.
Some spam is interesting

Once I determine an eMail is spam I identify it as [SPAM] and my spam filter collects any email that seems to be of the same nature and puts it in my spam bucket, out of sight. I do look in my spam bucket occasionally because email from people/organizations I want to correspond with often shows up in the spam bucket. Here is what my spam bucket looks like today:
My Spam

Don't click on anything in suspect eMail. I found that out the hard way when I tried to save an image and received a not so nice virus. The virus hid in my printer driver. It took a long time to locate and delete it. Norton was no help on that one.
A typical spam eMail, notice no text! That is a clue, images often link to a virus or other obnoxious download to your computer.

Re: Message from MK
That was all very helpful, Wayne. I appreciate learning all that. And Thank You, Roger, for initiating this interesting thread.

P.S. So, when I go to my Spam folder and see a line of new e-messages, I should simply check the box on the far left, for Delete, not click on the first in the list, and as I see them one-at-a-time, delete them one-at-a-time as they appear in front of me. You're saying that is not wise to do. Just check the box and delete, right? I have usually been checking the box at the top left which checks all the boxes; then, I hit Delete, and they are all gone at once. Good?

Can you retrieve it from your Trash, to send to Wayne, or would that not be a good idea?

Does not matter how you delete the messages, one at a time or all at once.
I am not sure where you read, "So, when I go to my Spam folder and see a line of new e-messages, I should simply check the box on the far left, for Delete, not click on the first in the list, and as I see them one-at-a-time, delete them one-at-a-time as they appear in front of me. You're saying that is not wise to do." When I said, "Don't click on anything in suspect eMail" I was referring to an open email. Maybe I can give an example of what not to do in an open email. I opened the image in Robert's email message titled "Attn: Your Pending Payment." If you recall, my spam filter showed no text. Instead of opening images, the spam blocker has a message, "Images are not displayed. Display images below." I will now open the image:

Looks like text with four links. There is no text and no individual links. It is all an image and the entire image is a link that will open my computer for the sender to give me a virus, steal my email list (which includes your email URL), etc, etc. Should I click on any part of the image, all of my friends would start getting these offers from Robert or any other fictitious name he uses (Alex.) Should I get greedy and try to get the $5,730 offered, Robert (not his real name) would also have access to my bank account.
Robert must think I am really stupid! I once was. Thought I could open the source code for one of these emails so I could examine how it works. Next day some of my friends sent emails to me complaining I had sent them a virus. I disconnected the internet cable and unplugged the computer from the wall socket and continued to get complaints. Someone had stolen my identity and was making their messages appear to be coming from me.
I better run Norton now to see if I was stupid again for opening that image for this demonstration. If you get any emails from me today, better delete them.

Re: Message from MK
And there can be no doubt that it is malicious spam when the message
has your name in the sender line as sending yourself that message
Needless to say, that one was deleted without any hesitation about
even opening or reading it!
When in doubt, delete.. if it was someone with a real message, they'll
get back to you.

Yup! Same story for those missed calls that leave no message....
The owls may indeed not be what they seem but still serve an imperative function: they remind us to look into the darkness.
Re: Message from MK
My general policy has been to delete but as I first said I don't want to cut somebody off.
Now I will definitely and confidently delete.
MYmoo,
Can you explain what the "hard delete" you mentioned near the top does?

....
Does "while" mean simultaneously, both pressed initially at the same moment, to begin with, or do we first press down the Shift key; then, next, press the Delete button, then holding both down simultaneously?
