So, that chubby, pie-pan-faced, bowling-ball-headed sissy (I'm convinced he runs around in his mother's clothes at night, or other such togs), vain leader of a nation of what seems to be born-followers and conformers, has had ONE missile, which he exploded as a test. One.

WE have 10's of thousands of such intercontinental missiles. Or did we give so many up when Pres. Reagan - and/or whoever - had his hardon for "disarmament"/destroying our stored defensive missiles that now we have little defense remaining?

Does the chubby queen of N.K. think we can't melt his whole country in retaliation for any single-gunned attack? Does he imagine any single part of the USA is expendable as far as we are concerned, whether it be Boston, or a hill in Alaska, or a corn field in North Dakota, or a hiking path in New Hampshire, or anydamplace! Does he think we will tolerate even one sacrifice in the USA of any single person or place and just cower in fear and absorb and forgive a first-hit?

Nutty fools who fancy themselves leaders understand actual force, not ooooooohow-can-I-kiss-your-dumbass "diplomacy" by us.
What's next for us? What's the next move? Does it have to be intelligent or can it just be bone-shatteringly strong and unmistakable?

NK's entire existence is predicated on and propped up by China which seems disinterested in doing anything until such time as the US offers something of real desire to China.

You're also dealing with what appears to a totally irrational entity that has nuclear weapons....add NK to the list of countries that we have managed to deter from that path unsuccessfully.

The ICBM test was successful. It could hit Alaska. The north also has short and intermediate range missiles.

Yeah, if anything breaks lose both Koreas with be in bad shape and it could easily escalate into what we don't want to discuss. There are no winners in a nuclear war, only losers. That little fat POS in NK just needs to be bumped off. Where's James Bond when you need him?

That would probably simply result in the US being blamed for it with the gate to hell opening shortly thereafter.... Someone ran down the options, Richardson (I think...) and that was on the list and pretty discounted as a short road to a dead end for all.

What you have in NK for leadership is a spoiled child. But, as everywhere the iron fist of communism rules, he has the entire military behind him, and they do have a rather formidable force. 30,000 artillery units pointed at South Korea. Figure 6 men to each artillery piece, along with all the support for them, and that alone would probably account for a quarter of a million troops. A shooting war would devastate both countries, and Seoul would get the worst of it because it so condensed and heavily populated. If you targeted his missile sites for a surgical strike with surface and sub launched cruise missiles, you'd still not get them all, and the baby boy would want revenge, and Lord knows what he'd pull the trigger on. At the same time, about 2 or 3 million North Korean civilians would be crashin' the border and flooding into China, and China sure'n hell don't want that. Still, the Chinese are the major trading partner of North Korea, with an increase of up to 40% in the first quarter of this year. 90% of all North Korean imports come from China, so they're the only ones that could hold sway over the little imp, and it appears they are not inclined to do so.
Over the years, the U.S. has cajoled and kissed NK a$$ to keep them from developing nuclear weapons, and look where bein' nice got us. Under the Bush administration, we gave them billions in food and economic aid, and they used it to feed their army and develop the nukes. Then the Obama administration did it again, on steroids. Since NK is already the most sanctioned country in the world, it appears there's not much left to do that will stop his nuclear dreams, unless the rest of the free world starts to put a hurtin' on China globally to force them to go in and kick the little ba$tards a$$.

In part, that's why we never really get very much done - lots of hand-wringing and lots of silly ideas, and very few thoughts or any real content that might be acted upon.

And no I don't have a good simple idea that can be acted upon other than to sit down with the Chinese and find out what it is that they want to put the leash back on NK. They have hold of it and they are the ones letting their dog run wild.

The Chinese love the situation. Forget about getting the Chinese to clamp down on the North Koreans.
