Trolley Park Has New Motive Power

Postby Jim K » Sun Jun 18, 2017 9:15 pm

Good Evening,

I am happy to report that the Labelle LSE Traction Motor kit has been assembled and AC traction power installed! A selector switch has been installed on the bottom of the unit which allows one to select whether the unit is powered from a center rail or an overhead line where one is present. Another local traction fan kept chiding me to install this feature even though I was sure the unit would not operate on the 027 radius curves in the Park. I was wrong so now the trolley can run in the park or on the Circle Route on the other side of the fence and both of us are happy! Thanks to Jim Rivers of Rivers Traction for locating a 3 rail pick-up motive source. I very quickly did learn that serions traction folks do not usually run on 3 rail. Also, thanks to RTF for his photos and encouragement. I was near boxing this unit up (like it had been for several years before) a few times. Trolley Park now has another piece of equipment and I can say that at 66 years of age I have finally assembled a Labelle kit! What DID take me so long! :D

Train and Trolley ON!

Jim K

Beautiful looking trolley! Runs nicely, too.

Congratulations!

Nice and sharp looking freight motor! :!:

I am just starting in on a recovery/restoration project of a freight motor for my next series of columns,

Very nice. Love the truck side castings and the other little details!!!

Very nicely done. I vaguely recall a motor of similar configuration travelling the line in Catonsville back in the late 1950's. I think it was MOW crews passing along the line that ran through Catonsville to Oella and on to old Ellicott City where the line ended just a block or so past the B&O station. Hadn't thought about that for a long time.

Now, does it auto-reverse when it slams into the bumpers at the end of the line?
