Never said it was something I would use against an attacking bear - I know enough about the woods that I own when to be where and not. Does help put my mind into a proper frame when approaching a stressful situation.

Standing about quoting anything doesn't do anything for the bear; might make Wayne feel better, but I'm guessing not. In part, that was my point. I'm in the woods with my axe and chainsaw, usually with my Cub tractor and maybe the small trailer, not spouting scripture.

See if any of it does a dambitogood. Let me know the results , when and if you are able . I'll pray for you both.

You're beginning to catch on - it doesn't do anything at all and a prayer only makes you feel better. That's its real purpose, don't you know?

Are you done with worrying about bears yet?

You're still welcome to come by my neck of the woods - we have bears, but I've never seen one about.

I know. I'm just being saucy-playful with you both.
And Thank You for saying I am still welcome. I have kept the invitation in my mind as a possibility for this Summer (?)
And incidentally, having a CHAINSAW at hand is an especially nice touch.

Yes, all this bear-shite yapping is finished, on my part. Enough is enough. I am planning on the trip Upstate in mid-June possibly  , other personal commitments permitting.

I live in a development of 80+ houses with a bit of woods between myself and my neighbor to the north. A few years back a black bear visited that small patch. Neighbor ran to fetch his cell phone hoping to catch a shot, but by the time he found it, Winnie the Pooh had moved on, crossing the valley from south to north. Probably within 40 feet (maybe closer) of each residence.

I prefer to carry my own rod and staff since the metaphysical one will be of little help against an angry bear. Or vicious dog.

And you can shove the book into the bear's mouth causing it to choke to death, thereby proving the intrinsic value of the scriptures.

Bible is located on my cell phone. Bear would probably just swallow it.

And you think a real rod and staff will have any impact on an angry bear?

Ignorant statement Murph. Bears do not understand scripture. Few humans understand scripture. I don't quote scripture to angry humans either. A big smile works better.

You're right. What I said, a poor attempt at jocularity, was uncalled for.

Actually, I suspect that the number of bears that understand scripture outnumbers the humans that do.

Actually, I was wishing more along the lines of one of those shoulder-held missile-shooting-type weapons we can see being used in Mosul against isis. A kick but an effective result. I theorize it would turn a menacing bear into bear-confetti. Is that harsh?
P.S. The guy in that video didn't seem too kicked by that gun's recoil.
