Actually, they did just get made again. PSC has them available now. However, the going rate for one of the new versions is in the range of, ahem, $4000.

Under $2k is beginning to look more reasonable,

Ran fine, never got around to converting to DCC and got a nice OMI Willamette 3 truck which I like better. Only needed one standard gauge geared engine.

As I posted about the hype and not the price, Rufus, I didn't feel what I sold mine for was germane to the point I was trying to make.

If you guys want me to stop posting these eBay laughs, just let me know.

Actually, it was of considerable value to me - I had no reference point on a recent sale on such an engine. I'd not like to spend that kind of money to then have to disassemble the drive to clean and lube to make it work.

Puts the "hype" into better perspective.......I'm still scratching my head over the concern over it getting lost in shipping - not heard that happening very often - once in a while stuff does go astray and I've even had to wander a block over to knock on a door to get a box that was mis-delivered - why that person could not be bothered to let me know he had it was a mystery that I never pursued

Please continue - some are true head scratchers and make one question what reality the seller occupies......

Well, Peter, you can see that this type of discussion is the most popular type. Post an actual O Scale model, and watch the conversation die. I am still planning to post a favorable comment on Martin's latest tank car, but haven't gotten around to it.

Still, it was a normal eBay offering, not truly worthy of the attention we gave it. Opinion.

What I enjoy most is the competition to be the lowest bidder. First guy says, I'd only pay this much. Next guy says, well, I'd only pay this. This is followed by someone that says, well, I wouldn't pay anything for it and, in the end, the winner says, they'd have to pay me to take it!

I agree that it is the hype that is the BS. The price may or may not be realistic. If buyer springs for it, the price is good. It does seem a decent model.

What I find negative is when a seller feels that I am so stupid, he has to tell me something is rare or valuable or desirable. And of course he bought it from an importer (which one?). I think all of us in the hobby have a pretty good idea of what is rate to us and to others for the most part. A seller publishing this type of hype is just negative to me. To me it is seems like the seller is trying to con me and assumes I have no idea about what I am looking at. At that price, I hope most buyers know exactly what they are looking at!

Heck, I might as well jump in on this one. I've been away from the On3 part of the hobby quite a while, so I could be "mis-remembering," but if that's a belt drive hidden in the shadows of the picture of the bottom of the firebox, isn't this the Sunset WSLCo#12 shay? I think PSC used (uses) a cross-box drive ala GrandtLine to one of the axles. In which case it's "in the wrong box" so to speak. Please, correct me if I'm off on this one - I plead oldtimer's disease on a lot of this stuff anymore.

At any rate, the custom paint job isn't right for WSLCo - they used an orange-colored block lettering. And the stripes on the bunker weren't on #12 either (although I think Swayne Lumber had similar stripes - this engine was originally Swayne #6) so maybe a dip in the paint stripper isn't such a bad idea after all...

Well...here is an unpainted H0n3 WSLCo PSC #12 Shay...and as you can see, this model is not quite the one shown. Tender length appears to be longer in the EB ad than the photo of the unpainted PSC, top of tender, some of the piping, shape of the steam dome. Of course, his photos are shXt, no blowing them up with hover to see the details...appears the riveted plate on the LH side of the boiler in the unpainted unit above the lower running board is not present.

Depending on number of engine and year, weren't most equipped with RED end beams?

This is allegedly a Sunset, and much closer to the EB as, $1689, free shipping, NEW LeeTown drive. Original box and foam.

I saw that too but when I blew it up a bit, I couldn't be sure. I also just noticed these might be pictures of 2 different locomotives. Look at the 6th and eighth picture (from left) and see it they don't look totally different!

As info, Lee Snover has a chain drive replacement for both the PSC and Sunset third rail models that solves the noisy (PSC) and slipping/breaking belt (Sunset) drives in these models.

PSC and Sunset made a basic 3 truck 60-65 Ton Shay and then added certain details to try to make them fit certain roads. All the Westside Lumber models had red/brown pilots (this one does not) and Westside lettering but they were not really accurate. The 3 truck I sold was a generic 65 ton unlettered. Before it, I had an On3 60 ton Oregon Lumber Shay # 7. It had an identical boiler and tender with a different stack, headlights etc and was 3' gauge. The real one still exists, see below link.
