I'm totally blown away at the Pacific Limited cars and what they bring. They must be some very accurate and beautiful cars as they always bring big bucks.

In most cases there is nothing comparable available and they are for the most part exceptional cars. Three were a handful that tempted me to actually think about considering maybe doing something, but I didn't. I am well beyond "enough" in inventory and roster, and just need to overcome my separation anxiety and sell off more cars.

In one of the earlier posts it was mentioned that the realized price went to the consignee, I find it hard to believe that the auction house would get only the 16-18% premium.

Very surprising to me; routine practice is 12-20% commission and the buyers premium.

As a seller you can negotiate down you fees. With a large lot like the last one stouts should move some. If you go no reserve with everything they'll wiggle. I tell my clients to play hardball and get it all in writing. As a buyer it is illegal to get fees lowered.

Whoever bought the Southern engines or the SOU passenger car, got inaccurate paint schemes, and a completely wrong passenger car. Hope they're in it to repaint them, lol.

Will be interesting to see what's left in the next auction. Saw only one item I wanted, but it went for way too many dollars. I'll probably find another for sale for way less in the next 40 years or so. Hopefully by then I will still be able to custom paint, lol.

I'll second that question. Not always easy to see what you are getting in pics, and there is always the crap shoot of shipping.

Last night, several of the Pecos passenger and Precision freight cars auctioned off by Stout showed up on ebay as "buy-it-now" listings. I assume they are the same pieces since the seller in Kentucky isn't that far from Stout in Indiana.

The ebay seller wants about $120/car over Stout's "realized prices", based upon checking the auction results and buy-it-now prices for two of the pieces. That does not seem to be a very big spread for the seller as Stout's fees have to be added to the realized price and all of ebay's commissions and fees have to be subtracted from the buy-it-now price.

Lot's of reasons actually. (1) Seller might have found the condition to be less than he expected if he didn't attend and inspect them. (2) Might have gotten carried away during bidding and paid too much and just looking to make a little or at least get back his investment back. (3) Could have had them pre-sold and his buyer backed away. (4) Found out after the fact he paid too much and hoping to get his money back. (5) Maybe he works on small margins. Lot's more reason too I'm sure.

I wondered when we would see some of those Stout items show up on eBay, but that guy is wasting no time.

Cockerham was great for smart-ss comments and rail side philosophy and fun to be around. But, he could piss off the pope if he disagreed with you and did that frequently.

Doug was great fun. He always struck me as a perfect match for a late 60s white Cadillac convertable with a set of cattle horns on the hood.

He was one of the guys that gave O Scale its character, and yep, he did not pull any punches when he didn't agree with something or someone.

Yea what looks to be wiseman model services on ebay reselling the cars…some condition on some of cars I looked at are not overly great, but gotta give it to him, the pictures are hi-res and you can see it all.

The only item I was looking at bidding on, I was going to repaint anyway, so condition didn't matter as much.
