I was in a navy school at Mare Island back around 1980. The first morning I get ready to go to class and couldn't open the door to my room. The room had sliding doors going onto a patio so I went out them to report the problem to the front desk. The lady said "Yeah, we had an earthquake last night"

Never felt a thing, maybe because the room had a waterbed (that certainly dates the story ).

One movie that turned me off of ever going to Turkey was "Midnight Express". Barbaric is putting it mildly.

Instead of wasting my time, (and the aggravation) of watching the Oscars last night, I watched "The Thin Man" on TCM. William Powell and Myrna Loy from the early '30s. She must've been the heartthrob of a lot of young men back in the day. I'll watch the whole series every time they run them. Truly Classic television.

I have seen Hidden Figures. The rest are all garbage.

The Oscars is supposed to be a glamours event where they reward the best with a statue. At one time that is the way it was. But now they have decided to make it about politics. They should have learned from the election that they can't change anything. All of them out campaigning for Hillary accomplished nothing. They just don't seem to comprehend that that they live in a make believe world of fantasy.

Last night they were so focused on politics that the event got away from them and they screwed it up and now we are all laughing at them

Another good movie to look for on TCM is "All Through the Night", an action-comedy gangster movie from early 1942 with a bunch of fun actors, Bogart, Lorre, Demarest, Silvers, even a young Gleason. Bogart chasing Nazi's...you can't beat that!

You saw all the other movies? All the categories nominated? You must have a lot of free time (and money!) and travel a lot to get to places where these were shown.

Don't know where you've been for the last 50 years, but it's always been about politics and is every year; for example you might remember Sacheen Littlefeather refusing to accept the Best Actor award on behalf of Marlon Brando for The Godfather....in 1973.

Well lets see, where to start. I started my retirement at age 57. No government jobs. always worked manufacturing (aircraft). Lived in California a good part of the 50 Yrs you speak of. Made lots of money on the 21st century gold rush called real estate. Did terrific with investments in the dot.com 90s. So I guess we can say I have the free time and money to support it.

All of the movies get uploaded to YouTube. But not under their name. If you know how it works you can find them and I don't use any of the torrent or Pirate sites. The last time I went to the movies was the take the grandsons to see the Lord of the Rings. All 3 of them.

Interesting to see these elite individuals protest the travel ban but they never say anything about how women are treated in the mid east countries. I guess they are afraid of having a price put on their head.

So you actually watched all of the nominated movies? If so, you might have seen more of them than the voters,

Quite a few actually have taken up that issue, but the ban is today's shiny thing and the attention span of our country's citizens tends to be about 2-3 weeks. Their memory tends to be even shorter....

(2.) Word is that many movie houses have become bedbug ridden. I have seen something tiny flying around, from time to time, between me and the screen, at times, back when I did go to movies nearly weekly.
Also, with the homies and the hoodies of the "entitled" ilk running - lurking - around, ever at the ready to spot a senior citizen plodding along, I don't need to offer myself up as prey. So, I stay home and wait for the latest movies to come on TV.

I'm not alone in that perspective.

Was not aware that they were significantly airborne - but maybe it was something coming from your "entitled" I've never experience anything of the kind - "word is" -- rumors and whatnot?

Also, with the homies and the hoodies of the "entitled" ilk running - lurking - around, ever at the ready to spot a senior citizen plodding along, I don't need to offer myself up as prey. So, I stay home and wait for the latest movies to come on TV.

We try to keep our distance, but "they" are, literally, just down the road. We don't have the power in us to go through the whole rigmarole of selling, packing, and moving, so we're just waiting and watching for them to come through one of the windows or doors. The immediate neighborhood is calm and, it appears, safe (?) but just last night a mob of "them" committed acts of violence at the nearby Willowbrook Mall, in Wayne, NJ. We have not gone shopping there for years, and "they" are the reason why, mostly. What's next, we wonder.

And regarding who's bringing the bugs into the theaters, the same conclusion as you drew had been drawn by many.
