What's New on the PRR Panhandle Division?

Got one of my new piers for the bridge today. It will go with me to York later this week when I meet with the bridge makers.

Looks good George, a nice replication.

I know 2.0 is planned at nearly forty feet in length...how long will the bridge and its new approaches be in total? Ten feet, twelve feet, maybe? Just my opinion, but I think you better plan to have some serious scenery at either end of the layout to avoid it looking like a model bridge with a loop of track at either end. That baby is going to massively dominate the center of the layout. Just my opinion...

Excellent point and I totally agree. The bridge main span is 7' in length. The Steubenville (western) approach will be either 12" or 15" long. The Weirton (eastern) approach will be 30" long. That's a total length of just under 11'. On the western side we'll have about 12' of town to work with; that should balance out that side. On the eastern side, we have close to 18' to work with along the back wall of the layout. The scenery just east of the bridge will consist of low land with many trees and line poles that gradually approach Weirton Junction. And then, following the track, will come Weirton Junction, Weirton itself, and Weirton Steel. I think we will be OK.

Yup...I left off the staging area. Should be fine and the bridge will be spectacular...

Maybe I'll run into you at York...it's going to be a blitz this time around due to limited time. I've got a few tinplate items to run down, then I'm out of there. Always fun trying to do York in three hours.

Thanks! Even without the staging area, the layout is 39.5' x 11'. I think we'll be good.

I started off thinking this would be a very quiet York, but as time goes by the "to do" list is growing. Much of it revolves around the bridge expansion, but there are other things going on as well. The hunt for figures, LEDs, cabin cars continues.
