If I put myself in the place of those guys wearing trousers, long sleeve shirt, vest, tie ,work apron , and god knows what underneath, Union suit? I would be so heat prostrated as to not smile myself.
Hopefully it was not as raging hot back then. Been working outside all my life and the sun seems to literally feel like its searing me now after 50 years.

Lets not forget the roper shoes and possible wool socks.

I don't think I have ever seen a farmer in a white suit and hat before.

Think about the transition from lots of clothing being worn to as little as possible being worn.
I wonder why it changed. I remember when men had to wear some kind of a top when swimming in a public pool.

I'm sitting here sprawled-out on a chaise lounge in the shade of a canopy on our rear deck, thankful for cut-off shorts (below-the-knee), T-shirts as outer wear, and the option of going inside to the refrigeration of central-air conditioning, and that bright-blue sky with its intense white clouds overhead. Nature is great. Advances in comforts are good. And retirement has its place. IMHO .
