..and I'm glad to see that awning, which is slightly rumpled and imperfect in the way it displays there. I have a number of awnings on my layout and like the variety in the ways they have presented themselves over time.

Not unlike myself,

But, your point is well taken - too many modelers strive for perfection in the details and things just aren't perfection all the time. Reality is "rumpled"...

Really? I would have thought it became part of the American vernacular back a couple decades, only, when a disgruntled postal worker entered his PO and shot up the place, killing several colleagues. No?

Looks like a Sharknose Hupmobile or a Graham, (I can't tell the difference between them.)

Can someone explain to me why people used to write data on photos directly over top of the image? My late grandmother always did that and I almost had a stroke when several years ago she sent me an original WW1 portrait of my great uncle in France and she wrote the info directly over the center of the image in ball point pen.
My Mom did the same thing when she compiled a photo album of photos from my birth to junior high, she wrote all the info right over the imagines in ball point as well. I wanted to scream when I saw that...
From the your (really cool) photos posted here, it's clear that this was something people often did in those generations.

This was the same generation (photo, above) that photographed its dead sitting up on settees with the bereaved, posing. Executed villains were photographed upright in their open coffins, stood-up along sidewalks, as well as hanged men dangling from tree limbs.

Simple way to remember.Who,what, where and when. If you write on the backside it will push through to the front only to be viewed in reverse.

People used to write comments in the margins of books they owned. A fascinating book on this subject is:

You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
