Re: Car Thread

Postby MurphOnMillerAve » Tue Jan 05, 2016 12:35 am

The most I ever knew about cars was which options I wanted to pick. And I made a point, from approx. the 60's to the mid-90's, to always buy GM cars (Pontiac, Gran Prix & TransAM; Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 4-door sedan; Buick, two Rivieras; Cadillac, Sedans deVille, & Sevilles.) Then, I went rogue and shifted over to Jaguar (dubious); BMW (wonderful); M. Benz (dependable and comforting).

But there were many cars I coveted but didn't have enough love to try, like Porsche, Jaguar XKE; MG-B.

Yet, through it all, I always lusted for the 1962 Lincoln Continental 4-door convertible, the lines of which I considered - and still do - the ultimate in understated CLASS.

If I won the lottery, I would jet to the Rolls Royce and Bentley dealerships.

I find this whole thread a fascinating read. You guys know so much about cars that I could not even repeat some passages of information without having to look at the page again and again. So much to learn!

Very enjoyable read. :D Thanks!
Murph

OMG. Yes. The lines. The Lines. The style. Oh, and that grill! A car handmade over several months as opposed to one robot-made in 90min. yes, sir! Thanx for the drool moment.

P.S. The neighborhood British (?)

I put a version of this on the Jungle in November, but figured it should be part of the car thread as well. http://www.penbaypilot.com/article/eric ... past/63116

I hate to say it Murph but these cars are very common in London particularity in Inner London the same goes for all those other expensive cars.
It's only that my son lives over there and we visit him on a regular basis that I see these things I carry the camera everywhere.
I've seen just about every type of car that normally you would not see in Australia so I snap photos just for interest sake I'll never own one!
If you like I'll see what else I have Scacey (Sarge) has a lot of photos from my trips I usually try to send him all the photos of where I travel because we are good mates.
I have a Bentley parked outside one of the expensive hotels in London somewhere the Doorman was keeping a close eye on me while snapping the photos probably belonged to Mick Jagger!

Exceptional of you, Nev, to offer to get involved like that, but I, too, will never own such a masterpiece, so I'd rather not torture myself w/ too much exposure to them. Truth be told, if I had that kind of money to lavish on something, I'd rather help out more kids in a parochial school near us, as well as help more of our clergy and seminarians. Rolls Royce is for somebody else. :)
Thanks again for your kind offer.

This is exceptional thinking IMHO in todays world.
I believe that if someone is capable and wants to help others that is just fine.
I do not believe that the government should decide for you to do that.

Murph, if you are selling Insta-Ramas faster than you can make them, they are too cheap. Raise the price until you find what the market will bear,
then look at this list:=> http://www.jamesedition.com/cars/rolls_royce

That fence in the background should be used around the White House.
