What's New on the PRR Panhandle Division?

Once again, life got in the way of progress. Some minor items got done:

• The final measurements for Backdrop #1 were computed. A few minor cuts were made to the backdrop so that it would fit on the wall.
• Angle brackets were installed along the top outer edge of the layout. These will prevent the backdrop from falling between the layout and the room wall.
• Additional angle brackets and some paint were purchased.

I had planned to put at least 1 backdrop in place, but that fell through due to circumstances beyond my control. With my carpel tunnel surgery scheduled for tomorrow, backdrop installation is at least 2 weeks off. I will have to find some other lightweight items to work on in the mean time.

Happy New Year everyone! The PRR Panhandle is celebrating the 2016 and the installation of two backdrops!!!

First, we put up Backdrop #1. This resides against the leftmost (western) side of the layout.

Second, Backdrop #2 was installed.

Finally, here's a better shot of both backdrops. A mountain will occupy the unpainted corner; it will have a tunnel.

Installing these two backdrops took some serious trial and error, cutting and fiddling, and about 3 hours of work. But we are making progress towards the 3rd backdrop and the bridge installation.

I am super happy about this!!!

Seeing your successful work on that backdrop tells me you have been healing well since you told us in December of your pending surgery. This is good news. Keep getting better.

Yeah, well I had help from a friend and my two boys. The wrist is healing well, but it does hurt a bit after this exertion.

I'm going to rest it a bit.

My next snipe hunt is for a set of brackets to go behind and support Backdrop #3. As you may recall, I need 5.5-6" of space between the backdrop and the wall to accommodate the Hidden Passing Siding. Actually I looked around for these yesterday and didn't find anything specifically for this purpose. I did see some angle brackets that could be re-purposed to do what I want (drawing below).
