There's a socket layin' just to the left of the Marvel can that Tony'll be lookin' for. Hell, I lose tools right in front of me that I've just used minutes before. Sometimes I swear the Bench Monster ate them , but eventually they turn up.

Tony, is this the one that was in a sealed Connex box for years that the crank won't turn on?

I bet you could hide a Royal Enfield in that garage with ease somewhere. What a lovely environment!

Mitch, yes it is. The only thing that was not completely free on the whole tractor was no.3 piston, the one that was rebabbited 40 years ago. I need to loosen all the bearing caps so I can rotate the crank to allow the piston to be removed out the bottom. I hope I don't have to drop the crank also!

Gentlemen, this is the way it is in life. Some people are vertically oriented, others are horizontally oriented. I am a prime example of the latter. Those who are vertically inclined have a bin, drawer, pigeonhole or something to keep everything just so, usually out of sight. I on the other hand spread everything out around me so it is in plain sight and immediately accessible. Well, usually! The tools you see around the tractor are what were used during the disassembly. I have many other tools that I use outside the garage, so not using these is no problem.

Sarge, I may not have a Royal Enfield back there but I can retrieve a .303 Enfield out of my gun safe. Close enough? My only 2 wheeler at present is a 1968 Honda CT-90 Trail Bike, bought new in Boulder, Co. for $340!

Got my 31 Model A back on the road today after a steering box replacement. Got a show in Fredericksburg, Va. tomorrow so I plan on driving down. The Model T club has a take apart car demo. After weeks of dreary cold weather the forecast is, naturally, fog, showers and afternoon TS.

Got this from Tony this AM via e-mail, while I was at work. Since this was sent, Tony has posted his own message, so whether his problems are resolved, I do not know, but here is his message in its entirety...

I bought the tractor from an old gentleman in West Virginia what, 40
years ago? Had a bad engine knock. Discovered no. 3 rod cap had only
one bolt left in it. Had to remove the 200 pound flywheel and the 75
lb. cast iron pan in order to drop the crank and piston out the bottom.
The crank throw needed 30 thou taken off and the rod rebabbited. Fit
perfect.

It was used very little at a couple shows and then was oiled and put in
a dry shipping container. Retrieving it 2 years ago I discovered the
engine was frozen. I jacked the tractor up with a chain around the
flywheel to no avail.

While I was under the weather my cousin came down to visit. Darned kid
tore into the engine and managed to break a manifold tab. So there it
sat until now. Next week the pan comes off and all bearing caps
loosened so I can drive the no. 3 again, piston loose.

I want to get this hunk out of the garage to make room for new projects,
like the slight engine knock in my '25 doctors coupay.

Pete, sure, go ahead. I don't send out pictures that I don't want disseminated to the other viewers. Not much to look at but the TT came into my possession in superb mechanical condition, especially since it was retired in 1950! All it really needed was new tires and tubes and a battery and it was drivable! What you see is what I got. I did wash the windshield, however.

The old A went flying down I-95 at 55 to 60! It just loved it. Found that I have a short in the low beam lights but since you have to strike a match to see if they are on it really doesn't matter much! Will fix it later. I need to put some more insulation around the pedals and column. Felt like a blast furnace coming up the road. However the 4&60 AC did help a lot.

Pete, in answer to your question about the cars, now that I have some edible food in me.

The 27 TT or ton rated truck has a worm drive rear end with a Ruxtel planetary underdrive in the rear end. It was rated for 2000 lb. but routinely carried much more. The standard ratio was about 7.5 to one for a top speed if about 18 mph. Mine has a high speed 5.25 ratio for 28 mph, limited by engine rpm (1800 max). Much heavier frame than a standard T. 2 foot longer wheelbase.

Both the 22 Touring and the 25 Coupay were bought from an estate in MD. The 25 is just a plain T. However, the 22 is a well traveled car according to all the plaques on the dash. The previous owner must have enjoyed making a lot of noise since, in addition to the regular buzzer horn, he added an external bulb horn with a bad case of flatulence. One sparkplug has an explosion whistle attached to it and the exhaust pipe has a cutout activated multiple chime whistle on it. It may not sound like the 611 coming down the track but it will do just fine.

I already had the TT which is not suitable for the highways around here and was looking for a good A for road use. I bought the 22 Touring first but needed the trailer it came in. The only way to get the trailer was to take the Coupe! But both together cost less than the Touring so I couldn't complain.

My experience confirms the old adage that one Model T, when left alone will multiply. In my case twins!
