My son is 18 YO and the insurance is very high even he is driven a 1.6L car.

We make our children pay the differential on the insurance when they are added. Driving is not only a privilege, but comes with responsibility financial and otherwise.

BTW, yesterday here in No. VA in the snow I continue to be reminded of the large numbers of people that simply have no business at all being in a car, driving in snow.....the lack of competency is truly appalling.

Correct, but he is in the college and the few buck he make working part time jobs is enough for gas.

I know that drill; my last six years from north of Gettysburg to Gaithersburg and back each day (four hours on a good day in the car).

Now, a different world. I took a break from editing articles for March/April OST and had a lovely playtime with the Mini in the snow for no reason other than the fun of it.

Actually, my son works full-time in a semi-management position and makes enough to pay his tuition as well as buying his own car, all of he bills for that, and the rent on where he is living.

My daughter also has a supervisory position, makes very good income working full-time, saving just about all the rest for her grad school tuition.

There were over 250 accidents in Fairfax Co. Va alone yesterday.

As took my daughter over to work I almost took an alternate route to get around a trio of mooks stuck going up the hill and as I turned found a schoolbus sideways down the the adjacent road. U-turn, circled about and up the hill after the mooks cleared out.

It was ruinous from the start...Montgomery County "pre-treated" their roads, which involves dribbling a liquid-brine concoction onto the roadways ten hours before the event. This was done despite the predicted single-digit temperatures forecasted...needless to say it was ineffective. This was followed up by no pushing/salting the subsequent four inches that covered everything early the next morning. Throw in a high percentage of the population demonstrating their incompetence driving on anything remotely slippery, combined with their nearly bald all-season tires...you get my drift (no pun intended)...
