Roger, Rich Melvin deleted the entire 2 or 3,000 reply thread. Not sure an explanation was ever given except that it was too long. But hobos have never been treated with much respect, have they?

The Jungle has found a wonderful home here on MTJ. The sad thing is that too many men like to be told how to act and crave being administered. Thus OGR.

Men, real men, should know how to act.
Yes, they might slip now and then.

Tramp, thanks again for bringing the Jungle here.

Thanks is all to Bill for having us. Has anyone heard from Bill in years? I was looking forward to his layout. The few pictures I saw many years ago looked great. What happened?

Tramp, I did notice the interior view but couldn't quite make it out through the mullions in the glass doors (that's a fabulous little case you've got there). The lines of the Porsche 550 are quite distinct, so that's an easy call. When I was eighteen a guy offered to sell me a 356A in reparable condition for $900...I thought it was the ugliest damn thing I'd ever laid eyes on and said "no, thanks". Soon afterward I bought a 1970 Opel GT which provided transport through my last two years of college. Women flocked to that car, but one of my room-mates had a Porsche 914, which, while at the very bottom of the Porsche food-chain, still provided an inkling of what the marque was all about. I soon regretted passing on that 356.

I email with Bill occasionally. I remember he said he was busier than ever after retiring, then they called him back to work.

Bills last post on the forum might have been this one < viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15308&p=267163#p267163 > on Aug 31, 2014.

I would like to see Bill's layout and/or trains more often myself.. also his model soldier collection. Some of those lead or tin soldier castings would be useful for model train layouts. I would also like a discussion on sizing of the model soldiers--they seem to be sized by height rather than scale. I think bill collects more than soldiers. Many years ago he showed us a lead lady named "Magenta." I would like to see her again along with some history and technical data, like, is she really lead. If I knew more about collectible castings I might be able to find some useful items on eBay.

I think RM deleted it in frustration, because there was a veritable chorus of anal-retentives complaining about the ‘Jungle’ being a “waste of bandwidth”, (as though the hosting-computer belonged to them personally). I sent him a private message at the time, expressing my dismay, and I asked him if he had himself read any of it, or had issues with the ‘fine arts’ being a part of his forum, and included some examples of the poetry therein. He wrote back and expressed his apology, that he had NOT read it, and that moreover, he himself was VERY interested in the fine arts. I think he truly felt badly.

But by then the damage was done, and the collective opinion from the OGR membership had cast their vote. In my work on an acute-care psychiatric unit, I see this type of self-righteous personality all the time, people who feel they need to interject their opinion where it is neither wanted, needed, appreciated, or necessary.

That the Jungle has gone on as a single thread, for fully 13 years, has been its own best rebuttal.

My interactions with him would lead me to conclude that he lacks any capacity to appreciate any form of art or literature.

Video for Jon. SmarterEveryDay dude takes his AK-47 into the swimming pool. http://youtu.be/cp5gdUHFGIQ

I was only mildly amused until SmarterEveryDay went on a boffin frenzy toward the end of the video. Very interesting.
