Doctors deserve every bit of their financial success, IMO. I am fortunate to have remained living in an area possessed of a plethora of excellent medical care. Believe me. I know and remain forever grateful that every doctor to whom I went for diagnosis, repair, and cure were more than proficient and have each blessed me with an optimistic prognosis. I am still alive and well, whole, sighted, and functioning properly in every respect (except for lovin' dem cookies way too much.) murph
And that gratitude and respect includes medical research and all the scientists who better and protect our lives and civilization.
Not to make too fine a point of it.

I realize it is nearly impossible to fund pensions of the type mentioned by v8 without bankrupting a system.

There have been several examples of this happening in California. There must be a better way than the way it was done there.

Murph, mate:

We'll disagree on that one, I'm afraid. I've not had a good experience in the hands of an American civilian MD since I was a kid and the old town saw-bones ministered to the lot of us. He would roll pills, set bones, do physicals, and do all those things a GP sends you off to a specialist for today. He really did make a difference in our world.

Not so today. God what a racket they have going now. Pay this guy to send you to that guy who will be mystified so you better see another guy &c. Then they treat just enough to keep you alive and miserable so you have to go back over and over and over and over. Don't cure anymore, treat instead.

The last doctor that actually saved my life or health was wearing a green suit like the rest of us and drawing a colonel's pay. Those guys were top drawer, not like the civilian MDs who have it all figured out.

I always get emotional watching that Rufus...so many of us have squandered our dreams staring at Wilson-Jones.

Were having big surf right now, 20 or 25 foot waves. The beach areas are very crowded with people watching, your not suppose to go in unless your a really good surfer. Hasn't been this big since 1997. Lifeguards have had to make numerous rescues.
I just won on eBay a Chicago and Northwestern Stock car red with die cast trucks for $2.75 + $$7.50 = $10.25. I need more cars like I need a hole in the head but I check eBay every Sunday for stuff I like with low or no bids.

Sounds exciting, V8Vega. I've never seen the west coast, and certainly not like that.

When I lived in San Fernando Valley I heard on the news that a storm out to sea was giving our beaches 25 foot waves. I went down to look and found only six foot waves. Decided to do some body surfing, right in front of the lifeguard tower. After a few rides, I was standing in waist deep water waiting for the next set of six footers when all of a sudden the water started leaving the beach (undertow.) I could not stop being drug out to sea. I turned around to look out to sea and there it was, a 25 foot wave. Even though I had been drug out a long way from the beach, the water I was standing in was only knee deep, but it was too late to run. I turned around and dove into the wave front. As I was waiting for it to pass, being bounced up and down on the sand like a basketball, I began to wonder how long I could hold my breath. Fortunately it was over in about 30 seconds and I found myself closer to the beach than where it all started. I looked at the life guard tower to see if I was being watched... nope, they were looking up the beach at something.

Shortly after that, on February 9, 1971, the Sylmar earthquake struck the San Fernando valley at 6:00:41 am. The thrust earthquake measured 6.6 on the Richter magnitude scale but had a maximum perceived intensity of XI (Extreme) on the Modified Mercalli intensity scale. I was at work when I heard the rumble of an approaching earthquake. It was the first time I saw earth waves. They traveled under the north building wall (where I was working), raising the wall about one foot, then traveled the length of the building, exiting under the south wall. The peak to trough magnitude was about eighteen inches. Darn, I did not have a skate board with me. It would have been some ride as HVAC ducts, and light fixtures came falling out of the ceiling. The fire extinguisher pipes broke spewing water down on the mess. Once the other workers realized it was an earthquake, they began running for their lives. Those that escaped through the north door found a very tall chain link fence blocking their escape. The fence was dancing so violently they only got about halfway up before it shook them off. That didn't stop them from trying again. One poor guy started running my way from the far end. As he neared, a light fixture dropped in front of him. He did a 180, turned toward the east door as he reached the center of the building only to have an piece of HVAC fall in front of him. Another 180 and he was breaking the sound barrier heading toward the west doors. Just as he straight armed the doors, the earthquake was over. I don't think he enjoyed the ride as I did.

December 10, 1971, I moved to Tucson. We don't have waves here.

If you go back to page 1498 or so, there was a photo taken in June of the iron-mongery done for my wife and her garden:

Image

Now that September is upon us, and the various vinery has had its way with the iron, we have this cosy little spot of English garden in our Pennsylvania "American Dream". Morning Glory has taken over the fencing whilst the clematis made it 2/3s of the way up the rose arch. We hope in a couple years for the whole arch to be weighted down with it, now that we don't have to trim it back anymore.

Anyway, we hope you find it enjoyable.

Nice. Do you need to replant every year?

Clematis will come back every year given good soil conditions.
