Despite minimal modeling activity on the Panhandle, it's been a very busy summer so far:
- My sister and I and our spouses just engineered the emptying and sale of our parents' house in Weirton, WV. Significant items (furniture, furnishings, power tools, etc.) were transported to Erie, PA. Two dumpsters (30 cubic yards) were filled. My parents had lived in that house for 47 years. This was a monumental task.
- My grandfather's model ships were transported back to Weirton and are now on loan to the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center. I am due back there to assemble the models. I am working on the background for the display (text and photo).
- Specific to the PRR Panhandle - the four traffic signals for downtown North Weirton were ordered and have arrived. They are due to be tested this weekend.

In preparation for testing the traffic lights, I exchanged e-mails with the supplier and created a wiring diagram. The traffic lights are all uni-directional signals, each facing a different direction of the intersection. They are indicated by red dots on the diagram below.
Both Main Street signals will operate together and are wired as such. Pennsylvania Avenue and Country Road are wired to operate independently. See wiring diagram below.
I will try to test this tonight on the bench.

The test was a partial success. There was a problem with the controller and it is being replaced. A number of the lights cycled properly and they looked great! They are very realistic and very impressive. I am really pumped about these going on the layout.
Now I need to wait for the replacement controller.

Hey George,
Can you post a few pictures and maybe later on a video of the traffic lights in action? The set up sounds great!
Thanks,
Andy

I will certainly try. I still need to get the controller back and then finish the street module. Due to some of my kid's stuff that's been moved into the basement, things are taking a lot longer than usual.

George, those lights would go good with a nudie scene.

George, Won't the animation of the traffic lights show up the stasis of your vehicular traffic? Or, are you planning on using slot cars, or other vehicular animation?

Well, that was pretty random.

Roy, you're just a troublemaker, aren't you?
Your horns are showing, kind a like this:
No, no slot cars or vehicular animation. At this point, the end date for this project is well past my expected lifespan.

George, It doesn't take a brain surgeon to anticipate how animation will juxtapose against stillness. When it comes to animation, in for a penny, in for a pound.G3750 wrote:...Roy, you're just a troublemaker, aren't you?...

George, why not excavate your basement floor and bury a magnet. Then pour a new slab over it an pivot the slab to the magnet with 4" pipe. You can use a table saw motor to rotate your train room on the axis of magnet. That way, your diecast cars will stay fixed to the magnetic field and the cars will appear to be moving. Aren't us arm chair craftsman brilliant?

So, in essence, when you put the magnet under the layout, What happens to your DCS/TMCC signals??jlong wrote:Roy wrote:George, It doesn't take a brain surgeon to anticipate how animation will juxtapose against stillness.
