A string of 10 of them would look good on a spur. I wish someone would mass produce UP CA-1's in 3 rail. I believe 3rd Rail did them 10 years ago or so but they're pricey (300 or something).

Interesting thing about the N6b's - the position of their cupolas varies! That's because they are rebuilds.

Some cupolas are centered and some are offset. My understanding is that this occurred because they were rebuilt by divisions (i could be wrong).

According to this site, the offset cupolas were a result of lengthening shorty cabooses. It also says cabooses were nick named Mae West because the curves on the cupola looked like her butt.

Nice link, John. I had no idea the N6b was the most common cabin car on the Pennsy. I figured it was the N5C or one of the N5 other variations.

Updated 5/18/2014:

I started on the Crawford's Crossing highway overpass. The prototype looks like this (the highway between the mills):

My version looks like this, at least starting out.

I've started to glue a triangular piece of the foundation layer to the road (it is closest to the viewer but not really visible). The sidewalks are clamped down as a guide. The next step will be to glue them to the foundation. After that, I will attach the roadbed to the foundation (I'm going to make good use of my wife's nursing textbooks. ). Once those are in place, I will choose locations for the telephone poles and drill mounting holes. Only then will I attach the Crow River railings.

It's not neat, but I've started the process. Feels good! :D

Updated 5/19/2014:

The motto for this project should be "More gluing, more doing".

Got some more time tonight and managed to glue down the roadbed and both sets of sidewalks. The photos don't look much different from the previous post, but there is real progress being made.

I added a foundational piece under the pointed end of the roadway. This will stiffen the overpass structure and keep the sidewalk properly aligned with the roadway. The end on the left side of the photo will be up against the against the wall.

Good question, John. I think I forgot them. You are talking about sewer drains, right?

I will try making some of the far away ones with paint and then carving the closer ones into the sidewalks.

Good catch!

I was half kidding over a previous argument over sewer and storm.

Yeah, but I did mean to have some. I really did forget. These days, bursts of time for modeling are snatched from handling the crisis du jour. That leads to irregular (2 steps forward, 1 step back) "progress".

Easiest thing will be to paint them on or use a marker. They will be too far away from the viewer for anyone to tell the difference. It will be our secret - yours, mine, and the whole freakin' internet.

Yes, no sewer odor if you paint them on. The gasses will be trapped under your layout..

Updated 5/27/2014:

Not a lot really happened over the Memorial Day weekend, but I did:
  • Review my diagram of the City of Weirton module with the types, numbers, and locations of all telephone poles
  • Located, drilled holes for, and installed 4 telephone poles on the module

I am placing telephone poles 12" (48 scale feet) apart).

Thank-you! There are two versions. One with a baggage door and one without. The one with the baggage door is the one I want and it's the pricey one (165, 6 days, and zero bidders). I wasn't aware MTH did CA-1s but they don't have the baggage door I see. Typical of MTH.
