The wire is insulated 30 gauge twisted pair magnet wire (red & green).

George

Is the wire about the same size as a human hair?? :)

I don't know much about magnet wire.

It's the same size wire used in MTH engines.

Updated 3/2/2014:

OK, this is pole number 27 of 28. It's the one in the middle with 3 transformers.

Thank you, Roger!

I hope to get to the last utility pole tonight. I did get the arm in place. I'm trying to take photos as I go. With this being the last pole, I want to make sure I have a record of my steps.

That overpass beckons!!!

Updated 3/23/2014:

OK, I finished the last telephone pole (28 of 28), but didn't get to a photo of it. I have started filling them with Squadron putty.

Started a new mini-project (for when I'm stalled on the big projects). This one is a Weirton Steel caboose. It will be kit-bashed and re-painted from a Weaver "Northeast" caboose. Originally, I was going to re-do the Weaver PRR version (which I bought at York 14 years ago). However, disassembly was difficult so I bought a new, unfinished, unassembled one from Weaver.

The major body parts have been painted green. From my photos, the WSX caboose looks like a PRR N5, N5a, or N5b (all have square windows). However, it has 4 windows on each side instead of the correct number - 2. I have cut styrene panels to cover 2 windows on each side and fitted those. Here's what it looks like so far:

All the other parts have been painted flat black. It will be renumbered "4" and get a logo as follows under the cupola.

George. That caboose is going to look sharp. Love the jade green on the NE design.

BTW......whatever you do, don't let friends drive MTH engines on your layout.

JADE? Jade is an NYC shade. Seriously, thanks!

Friends? I don't have any friends. I mean, not too many friends with MTH engines.

Well, the dummy taking the photograph needs to include it in the shot.

These 3 photos show the major components.

Not shown are the windows, lighting, smokejack, and trucks. I haven't decided yet if I will light the caboose. That will require different trucks.

You could always install an LED, battery, and on/off switch for lighting. There are kits for doing this. Unless of course you're not a battery kind of guy. In that case I appologize.

George, It'll be interesting to compare your caboose with the new Lionel N5b (in the new catalogue).

Yes, well, maybe.

Weaver's caboose is a Reading prototype. I doubt it will be more accurate than the Lionel one. Weaver's been making it for more than 15 years.
