That would have been an interesting car to see on the street.
You could tell people that you got it from a beach bum that looked
about the same but the sun had caused his body condition.

Ashamed to believe the city I was born in has come to this:
Image

Screw this fascist SOB.
Image

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that you'd be cracking the skull of a cutthroat. Or what about the Black Maria sitting out there on the street with one lonely chauffeur -- what if it had been driven off or its tires spiked. The Organs (of state security) would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

The Coffman engine starter (also known as a "shotgun starter") was a starting system used on many piston engines in aircraft and armored vehicles of the 1930s and 1940s. The Coffman device used a large blank cartridge containing slow burning Cordite that, when fired, pushed a piston forward. A screw thread driven by the piston engaged with the engine, turning it over. This was in contrast with other type of cartridge starter which acted directly to drive the engine piston down and so turn the rest of the engine over, such as those used on the Field-Marshall agricultural diesel tractor.

The other systems used during the period were electric motors (such as those used in automobiles today), inertia starters (cranked either by hand or an electric motor) and compressed-air starters, which operated much like Coffman starters but were powered by pressurized air tanks.

The starter became famous as a plot device in the 1965 movie The Flight of the Phoenix, in which pilot Frank Towns (James Stewart) has a limited number of cartridges with which to start the makeshift aircraft's engine.

2railjonI thought Calif. had really strict laws. They did pass a law recently banning ALL semiauto rifles with a removable clip but Democrat Gov. Brown vetoed it and the Democrats are all crying loudly. Theres 35 million in Calif not counting illegal aliens so I'll make a wild guess that there is 5 million semiauto rifles with a removable clip. If the law had passed and they will probably bring it up again you have to register your gun with the police or give it to the police and you can't sell it. When you die your heirs have to turn it in to the police within a certain time or they become criminals
Where was that Pontiac? Here they impound any abandoned cars right away..

Hey Murph! Good to hear from you as well!
It's a chilly day down south but enjoyable. We have a turkey on the smoker, pecan pies in the oven and a few nips of Jim Beam from the holiday beverage cart.
Just got done setting up a couple yard decorations. But something looks a bit odd with this one.

I'm sure your Santa has it all in-hand and will be a happy li'l engineer out there on your lawn. Maybe, he has his eye on that new home-defense item you have just shown us, accounting for his smile-of-approval.

Jon,

Admitting that what I know about guns[?]is you point them at something and pull the trigger, what is that thing on the end of the barrel?

Add me to the list of those that are glad to see you posting again.

Roger, it's a muzzle brake. It redirects propellant gases with the effect of countering both recoil of the gun and unwanted rising of the barrel. A .50 BMG is a powerful round!
