I think that Steve Allen was much better than Carson; BTW, Art who?

Indeed. Allen was hilarious....

Yes, indeed. He was esp. funny to me when he would do that high-pitched laugh at something he found funny w/in the sketch, which gave this viewer the feeling that something had happened which was unrehearsed or not seen as paticularly funny during rehearsal. The best part, for me, in his laughter, was that it seemed like he could laugh at himself, and that kind of humilty can be wonderfully disarming, IMHO.

P.S. Another comedian I enjoyed for his impromptu happenings was Soupy Sales. I'd love when BigDog ("rou-ah-rou-ah-rou-ah") would come to the door and commit all sort of shenanigans (incl. topless ladies flashing their good intentions) out of the view of the camera (legend had it,) which would crack Soupy up (as well as some of the stage crew who could be heard laughing, too.

P.P.S. As a young adult, during the early 70's, I'd occasionally run into him in Central Park, NYC, usually at the top of the Bethesda Fountain steps, and he was just as much fun in-person as he was on TV, always having a welcoming smile and pleasant attitude toward folks there. He would immediately attract a small crowd of adoring fans, thrilled by the happenstance of having come across him, who would try to get him to pause with them for a few precious minutes on sunny Sunday afternoons.

How about: As Sam carefully tamped Fred's hemorrhoids back in place, he tried to recall whether or not Fred had ordered the baked bean "surprise" at lunch!

I don't want to touch anybodys monkey.
Monkeys are almost as scary as the Rufus clowns.
