Tell me about it. Having gotten use to to tasting food instead of salt, I find I can't stomach many prepared foods, way too salty.

Sure is good to see you back.

I've noticed that many restaurants seem to cook w/ lots of salt, too. Ever notice how thirsty you get not too long afterward?

I do most of the cooking in our home, and I stopped salting anything, years ago. However, for my personal taste, on beef - only filet mignon - that I eat, maybe, twice a year, I do like salt, feeling it enhances flavor. :?

Wayne,

Interesting info about Ocotillo.Thanks.

If I had had more experience with the Sonoran Desert [about 6 weeks] I may have modeled southern Arizona scenes.
I had much more knowledge of eastern hills [60+ years] and thought I would do better with an area in which I have more personal experience.
I do know, and knew it before I visited the area, that the desert is NOT dead and deserted. Many animals and plants that could be used on a layout.
I also know that almost anything that someone needs to know can be found on the internet. But it is just not the same as personal experience.MHO.

So now I have to watch my salt intake. Man, when ya look at the sodium on things in the store it makes ya shake. Unbelievable..................

Welcome back !
Went thru the same thing back in July after my heart attack in June. Don't know which is more difficult, giving up the salt, the booze or the smokes. It was a pretty serious event but the wife wasn't quite aware as to how bad it was. They were loading me up on Lasix(think that's the stuff) so pretty soon I start whizzing like crazy and with all those wires hooked up I'm required to use a portable urinal so they can measure the output. Here I am trying to sit up in the ER bed trying not to piss all over myself and my wife is just laughing her butt off. But her tune really changed when they said they were going to keep me overnight, she really fell apart. Ended up I was there for four days. That was the best hospital I've ever had to stay in, the food was actually excellent and the wife got to stay with me.
There are now quite a few "no added salt" canned products which allows me to cook my favorites w/o salt, just need to adjust the spices to make up the difference. Part of my CHF support group deals with the issues one faces with a restricted salt diet, my target is 1200mg/day.
Now all those damn pills twice a day is another story.

That's it Doug. Lasix is a diuretic (water pill) that prevents your body from absorbing too much salt, allowing the salt to instead be passed in your urine.

Hevman, I quit too back in Feb. It was the night I called you, and I smoked my last one in the pack while talkin' to you. I was in the 3rd week of the 3rd month on Chantix, at a cost of nearly $500 and I was still smokin'. Not much; I was down to about 2 1/2 packs a week, but to me it was obvious that the Chantix wasn't really workin', so when I ran out, I said I wasn't gonna buy any more. Last time only lasted 5 months. We'll see how I do this time. My doc says most people average quittin' about 7 times before they kick it.
