A kid in town here asked me to repair his Lionel train that had stopped working. I wanted to say no, but you trying telling a ten-year-old boy that when he's holding out the orange box, his eyes all sad and hopeful. The train was the Polar Express set. I'm not going to call it complete junk, but have any of you tried to work on this set? If you have, please explain how the passenger cars come apart enough to replace a burned out bulb. Also, the trucks seemed to be riveted on rather than screwed. I finally managed to get the locomotive running. I also gave the kid pounds of old Lionel track much to the consternation of his parents since the kid now has track running through their entire apartment, even under the parents' bed. I also gave him LOTS of smoke fluid. Will MTH fluid be okay in this locomotive?

Mitch, I don't venture over to that other side anymore. I think you know why.

Jon, thanks, buddy. Do you have any normal trains left for sale? Engines? Something the kid might like? Small steam? Diesel?

Tramp, Off the top of my head I have a pristine Atlas Baldwin V-1000 diesel I would be willing to donate to the young engineer. I'm sure I have some other 3 rail items stashed as well. Tell the young man to give me a couple of months more to return home and I'll get the items boxed up. :D

That looks as if it would work.
I wonder if it is easy to find parts?
