Wait a minute! I must have missed a whole lot of good news, in these parts. Bikermike, Did you go ahead and actually get that house you had wanted and asked about, here, on this forum, concerning procedures, potential problems, and advice about makng such a move? I'd be honored to have you update me on such a joy of yours, if I have read these lines from you correctly (?)

Murph I have had my offer accepted but there's still more processes to go through and I probably shouldn't jinx myself! The sooner its all over the better, I find this process fraught with worries and my wife's looking through catalogs for appliances, furniture and spending money like water (well in theory anyway). I'm in duck and cover mode and hoping we'll somehow get there and still have some money left.

She's lived in the city all her life, mostly in apartments so as far as she's concerned all the costs of ownership don't exist because she's totally unaware of them. I don't want to burst her bubble but she's gonna have to understand that electricity isn't provided by the electricity fairy. The air conditioning the whole house down to 60 degrees has got to go for starters, I can see some battles royal over this one.

She wants gas because she 'can't cook with electric' anyone who's dealt with the propane companies knows what that means but 'maybe we should have two cookers, one gas, one electric if we can't afford the gas one month?' I'm just sitting in my recliner burying myself in my books and making non-committal grunts at this stage of things.

May I ask, did you get the house Pete (Dirt) posted a photo of on MTJ for you to see (I think it was he who did so,) having traveled to see it in person? I'm very happy for you. I remember several of the voices here being quite detailed in their varied advice to you regarding home ownership. It was an interesting read altogether, but I lost track of it.

No - I got a house near my children assuming the little buggers stay there! Its on the Chesapeake in VA.

I was torn between farmland hill country and ocean/bay front beauty but the proximity of my grand children swung the compass to the latter as did the bargain we found which is a modern modular home not a mobile. The view and the size of the attic did the rest.

It was still a difficult decision but my son whose marriage I went down there to attend, as a result of which we found that house, is hoping to learn potato farming from his father-in-law who wants someone to carry on the business. Will he make a go of it? I dont know but he's a good lad and it might help him to have his Dad around encouraging him.

The way I see it if I can get this together without losing my shirt, I can always come up to PA to meet the lads later. I've got my oldest living in PA somewhere can't remember the name of the town.
