Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
There's a book? Oh, of course, 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey (had to look it up.)
Did the book do a great disservice to the treatment modality itself? Based on your comments it seems the movie was biased toward public opinion and entertainment value. The 1976 film was the second to win all five major Academy Awards, (Best Picture, Actor in Lead Role, Actress in Lead Role, Director, and Screenplay) following It Happened One Night in 1934. Cuckoo's Nest is one of the most memorable films in my memory.

Re: Hobo Jungle
The movie HAD to be biased, it HAD to make it seem like a barbaric punishment, or the movie wouldn't have worked, wouldn't have been as good as it is. No aspersions to the movie, which was both excellent, memorable, and deserving of all it's awards.
All I was saying was that it's unfortunate that it served to demonize an effective psychiatric treatment.
If you haven't, do yourself a favor and read the book. I'm sure you'll like it. Much of it was from Chief 'Broom's' POV and beautifully written, which was absent from the film. Again, no diminishment to the film, but a loss to the movie watcher.

Book & movie are, as with many with the movie making crowd, two different things entirely. Both are quite good and while they relate to one another, also very different.
Additionally, do consider the context and timeframe of the book for what was happening and being done, how people were treated, etc; that was better than 50 years ago. We were still doing some things to patients then that we could never get approved today even under experimental protocol.

Has anyone heard from San? I don't think he has posted in a long while.
And is Hev doing okay? I keep hoping he'll pass me in posts, but he's still about 20 behind, and now I just added another.
Wayne, the dike breaker, is coming on like a flood though. I bet Wayne never thought he'd be called an "in-house cyber-hobo troll." I really cracked up about that one, but then I don't think the Marx boys or the Stooges are funny.

Comedy and humor are subjective: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die," sayth, Mr. Brooks.
Actually, I've been enjoying all of the movies of Buster Keaton that are reasonably available -- lots of scenes with trains in many of his movies.
Harold Lloyd is next in the line up after I get done then with entire 2nd year of Twin Peaks.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Twin Peaks I really liked.
Thanks, Marty. Good to see you're running trains again. "Every dog deserves a bone at the end of the day."

Jon, mate:
The family chose the Polar Express going on one loop and the Hogwarts Express on the other. I, of course, concurred and made it so.
