I am SO sorry that I missed the meeting, I was really looking forward to it.

However for those craftsmen I know will appreciate this, the ads are annoying but the video is well worth it, really. I got to this via my search for antique scientific equipment, research I'm doing for my story. i hope you enjoy it

Mike and Rufe

...and we missed you both indeed. I'm hoping that we can do this again soon, perhaps another meeting at the Museum in Strasburg under the capable guidance of Hev (Hev had a lot of insider info I knew nothing of!). That way Mike can perhaps railroad down easily.

Another option is the battlefield at Gettysburg; if the weather is still tolerable, we could tour five bodies or so in my 1940 Chevy sedan. Eisenhower's home is also part of the park system. Have never been in inside it myself.

I walked by it countless times during my 4 years there and was also never inside it.........

Here here!

As with most museums, there are nooks and crannies that can go unnoticed if one is in a hurry. Speaking of unnoticed, I was glad I took a second look at the Reading Tech table, they had a really nice diesel diagram book for a bargain price of $5.00.

I have been to the Eisenhower home, it's a nice tour, and of railroad note is the B&O bell that was presented to the CinC by the British Railways and the B&O (if I recall correctly)

Another option would be an Altoona get-together next Spring.

Fellow hobos, may I present the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:

Image

Or perhaps better stated, the 3 Horsemen and 1 Horse's *** of the Apocalypse, there in the back row with the black Orangeville hat, where I forgot to suck in my belly, and where it is plainly seen that I do NOT represent 'Famine'!

8) Nice little piece of tin behind us. 8) The place was full of them! 8)

Bob, Sarge, it was my distinct honor to meet you gentlemen, and it would be great fun to do it again sometime.

For the rest of you hobos, these are three of the most congenial and knowledgeable men you'd ever want to meet, and despite dire warnings from 2n3railjon, not once did I need to hit the 'speed-dial' button for the guys in white jackets. Not even close.

Hev and Patty, once again, I had a great time hanging with you both. As always, the food was excellent, the laughs unending, and the company sublime. I deeply appreciate your hospitality!
Love you both!

I feel sure this was quite a meeting.

I hope to meet a few people this week at my first and probably only trip to the York TCA meet.

And a finer bunch of hoboes I have never seen. Thank you for posting the photo Pete.

Sarge,

Considering how deep it must have gotten hanging with those guys, your boots don't look high enough.

Have you ever wondered how Murph makes such convincingly realistic scenes? I think I have it figured out. He uses Sage Brush. Here is proof:
Image

That dead tree in Murph's scene is Sage Brush (Artemisia absinthium) AKA Wormwood. It is found in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. Murph says of his secret source, "It is natural, from the southwest."

Absinthe, known as the "cocaine of the 19th century," was a distilled liquor made with the additive wormwood. Wormwood, when combined with alcohol becomes a narcotic producing a variety of disturbing physical and mental problems. Known as "the green fairy," "the plague," "the enemy," and "the queen of poisons," absinthe caused great social problems partly because it became associated with inspiration and freedom and became a symbol of decadence--characteristics counter to Victorian sensibility and propriety.

Absinthe, unlike more popular beer, is relatively expensive and its use is generally restricted to the middle class and to certain artistic groups, where, it is reported, its hallucinatory effects are much appreciated.

Now we know how Murph comes up with those fantastic realistic model scenes.

Disclaimer: The above is a True-Lie. I leave it to you all to figure it out what is true and what is lie.

Tramp, if revealing an artist's secrets like this is, a, a violation of hobo etiquette, just let me know and I will send these secrets to wherever deleted posts go.

That's why I'm sitting on a chair. :D

Seriously, a grand time with grand folks.

I understand Murph and a few others of the crowd are hitting York this weekend coming. I'll do my best to stop by Friday and say how-do, so long as I know where to look.

Once the fall TCA hajj is over, shall we set a date for the next gathering of the Horsemen?

Wayne, do you know about wormwood cups? I have drunk absinthe, but the modern versions don't seem to live up to the dazzling reputation.

Pete, what have you been eating?

 LMAO!!!

Yeah, me who works in psychiatry, and I'M the one acting 'certifiable'!!
And no, it's not a 'comb-over'. It's what little hair I have after a hat's been on all day! :D

That damn Hev, I'm either going to have to grow an eye in the back of my head, or point my camera more at him! :D

Here's the shot I was actually taking, while I was trying to get the glare off the lens...

... but O. Winston Link I am most definitely not!
I just liked the idling steam, the sidings, the switch and water towers, and the sun on the rail. Made them rails look like they were made of gold!
