Welcome to the jungle 2n3railjon. How is it that your posts counter reads 12232 when you just fell off the sugar beet train and landed here?

Tramp, they are all commendable, for kids who were stick-figure-capable on walking into your classroom.

That said, I have likes and dislikes myself. Purely personal preferences, which is the limit of my so-called art appreciation.
I love that china cup in the first picture, far and away more than the others, and the silverware also, but I like the napkin in the fifth picture much better than the first, which looks unfinished. You can feel the texture in that napkin in the fifth.

The cup in the fourth is well-done, but it's a distraction to me that the top and the bottom of the handle don't line up.
The knife in the second is all handle and little blade, and looks disproportionate, again a distraction, as are the unsymmetrical fork and plate in the last.
The devil is in the details.
And the bent silverware does nothing for me.

Again, not criticisms, just my preferences. They should all be proud of their progress! 8)

Pete, may you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. If you get a minute, beers are on me! Hell, I'll even buy you a short. Might as well start celebrating today.

Jesus, quite the party. Pete, I'm going to try to post poems until I hit one you've never read. Is this one? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUDDY!

HERO

A bit warmer today, it's 20
And a nice even snow whites.
On a porch across the street
The old fellow is out smoking
As he is every day of the year.
10 below he's still out, though
He stands then and won't sit
And occasionally rubs his
Massive gloveless hands.
His navy watch tuque is
Perched tall just the way
Steve McQueen wore his.
Whenever he spots me he gives
Me the best wave I've seen,
While his only words are:
How you like dis wedda?

Today a big scruffy sea gull
Lands on the icy bank
Under the porch and
Stares for half an hour
Up at the old fellow.
Damn, I guess he knows too.

Here's a second one just to make sure. Read it?

ONCE

It's April and it should be warmer,
A day like the belly of a whale,
So I'm burning religious books
In my wood stove.
I read a few lines,
Then in the book goes
To the red jaws of the devil.

What an odd concept prayer,
Within our incompetence we beg
Another force to intervene
To grant us what we can not
supply ourselves.
And why does a single god
Appeal more than multiples?
First we needed so many gods,
But now it's just one
Or none.

But they burn fairly good, the books;
I scan a few mildewed pages
Before the toss to flame.
Methodists are ahead in the count,
Baptists and Catholics even up,
Jews trail.
That a life will be spent gaining inches,
When this distance is read in miles.

Thanks guys! It was a dandy!

(*cough-cough*)

I started a weeks vacation today. Spent my birthday running around buying roofing supplies,- felt, ice-shield, drip edge, starter-strip, roof cement, staples for the borrowed slap-stapler, and a box of coil roofing-nails for the pneumatic gun.
Tomorrow, I'm ordering the shingles, flash-pieces, and roof vent, having the dumpster delivered, and then spend the rest of the day stripping shingles, and hopefully getting some felt down, so I'll be ready for the boom truck to put the shingles on the roof, (so the redhead won't have to lug them up the ladder). :D

Do I sound like I know what I'm doing? I don't, except for what I've read and asked. I'm doing the scut work, and after that, it's hard to mess up laying the felt. And I have a friend (who is an experienced expert) coming friday and saturday and do his magic while I feed him shingles. He'll do me right, having done more than 200 roofs, and he's particular. But I wanted to be 'competent help' to him when he comes, hence the self-education. It's not rocket-science, but it IS detail-oriented, and needs to be done right.

We lost a big chunk of shingles down to bare wood a few weeks ago in a bitchin' easterly. I've had a tarp nailed down up there ever since. Time to make things right.

So much for a restful vacation. Ah well, it'll be a big chunk of money saved 8) , an education 8), and a sense of satisfaction 8) , which will all be time well spent!!

Meanwhile, I'll pray to Buddha and bow toward Mecca and do a novena and spin my prayer wheel and stick supplications on paper in my western wall and dance at dawn in a white robe around a picture of Stonehenge and contemplate my navel and sacrifice a pig, all so I get a week without rain.
Wish me luck.

Roger, if you pack a bag quick, and leave right now.....

I was just out peeing in the dirt. Any of you guys Gemini's? If you go out right now, and face the crescent moon to the west, the two stars straight up toward the zenith above the moon, two fingers apart at arm's length, are Castor and Pollux, the twins.
And the first thing you see to their left and up a tad, that reddish thing is Mars. If you look in a binoculars, you can see the beehive right below it, (though the waxing moon has already overwhelmed it's prettiness).

Dirt,

You will need some (luck) this time of the year! One thing you didn't mention among your list of supplies that you might need is a chalk line.
The job should go pretty fast with a nail gun. I'll do the rain dance backwards for you!

Rich

PS: Happy Birthday!
