Thanks for the great song Petey! Warms an old hobos heart!
No offense intended Highrailjon, I was just catching Petey up on my last year on the road. Some of us left the other forum because of censorship.
Adios amigos!

Bindle Stiff, I'm in no postition here to enforce any censorship. That's Bill's job. We all have opinions about past and current political administrations, but they quicky degenerate into name calling, as I'm sure you've seen on other forums. It even happened here on a thread that I posted which became misintepreted. I apologize if I've offended you or hav'nt acted properly myself. And I do know all about censorship, seeing as I was the first person to be banned from ogr for life.
Drinks are on me tonight. Jon

Stiff, I read your post before you changed it. Couple of things:
The author of this thread, among a few others, (me included), has had no qualms whatsoever about adding a political opinion here and there.
Secondly, Jon is a damn good man, and would be the first person to cover our backs here on the Jungle. He arrived in camp after your departure, and has no idea how much you had brought to this place. When he says 'no offense intended', you can take that to the bank.
Third, I feel for you with your anxiety about finding steady work, and being able to support your family and your retirement. That creek runs deep, bud, and it's one of my greatest blessings that I fell into a line of work in which I will always have a job, and one in which I can come home every night.
Lastly, if your "adios" means you ain't coming back, this Jungle will be diminished.
Thats my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, to all ye with some green flowing through you.
A wee blessing:
May the barroom floor never rise up to meet you,
May your fellow hobos always have your back,
May the beer flow cold upon your lips,
May the ladies sit softly upon your lap,
and until we meet again,
May your friendships carry you in the palms of their hands.

Back in 1980, just out of the service I jumped on the Harley and headed to New Mexico to work in the oilfields. Life was good until the bottom dropped out in '81. Down to my last beer, I started looking for even a minumum wage job. I remember applying at some shop that balanced driveshafts and put in an application. The owner just looked me dead in the eyes and said why should I hire you, when I can get cheaper labor. My face to this day still stings from that slap. I know where you are coming from. That's why I got a bit upset. I think the majority of the problem lays with the employers, they do the hiring.
One quarter Irish on my dad's side of the family, here. My grandmother's maiden name was a Reilly. From what my father says his family used to walk to the local tavern every night and fill up a tin pail with draught beer and walk back to the house. I'm guessing it was a common practice back in NYC. If he walked down to the tavern with his uncle, who liked to stay and socialize, he was tied to a lamp post out front with a long rope so he would'nt wander off. During the prohibition they brewed their own beer in the bathtub, then bottled it.
I hope everyone has had a few. I spent the day on a snow sled, trying to keep up with John Alden. We'd stop, crack a couple, put our faces to the sun, continue. I got much faster as the day progessed, started sliding that sled like a madman. John says, "Jesus you're getting fast." He's been riding since he was 15.

San Diegan
I got home a little early, so I poured a tall one and for the second time since I got it, put the Berk through its paces.
One thing I noticed is the the tender is numbered 4015 and the engine is numbered 4019. I'm not sure if it was common to swap tenders and engines, but I can live with it.
Tramp, are you talking dog sleds, snow mobiles, or snow boards? Or the "Rosebud" sled? I'm a bit to south to know!
