I just visited the MWM website and couldn't find any mention that the cars would actually operate (dump). You would think that would be mentioned, as it is sort of a big deal.

That's how the real things are unloaded - they are inverted and the load falls out. There's a reason why they are called BethGONs, not BethHoppers.
There is a rotating coupler on one end of each car, which allows the train to remain coupled as each car is unloaded. Here's a prototype video of that:

The rotating coupler is really the BIG deal, not the car. You still need a rotary dumper to unload the cars, and they did the same thing with hoppers, the caveat being one at a time.

Are the bethgons able to dump through the bottom if a rotary dumper is not handy? If not, may be the time to invest in rotary dumper stock.

Roger, I don't know that there is an Erik. The fellow who makes this stuff goes by the tag CSX Al (on NK) and is the man behind Millhouse River Studio, Al Zamorski (SP?).

He makes turntables (aluminum) and transfer tables, and says this dumper will be made of aluminum.

His stuff appears to be pretty nice.
