Here are a few more locomotives that I bought because I felt they were good looking, but "most beautiful," I can't say. I'll leave that to my-betters on the forum. A bonus for me was that almost every one of them turned out to be a good runner, dependable and not quirky on the Layout.

You're right, of course, and that's what adds to the enjoyment of comparing likes and loves of such engines. The FEF is a top favorite of mine because of the way it looks as well as for the way it moves around the layout. I got a whole consist of passenger cars to complete its statement.

Looking at that Chinese loco, I see those "bumpers/plungers" that are prolific on European engines made it to the orient. Wonder how the US escaped them? They are not the most appealing looking gizmos, but it seems they would help prevent damage in an over enthusiastic coupling. Presume they are hydraulic???

I don't know enough about buffers. I know that American trains used link-and-pin couplers, until they came up with the knuckle coupler.

In Europe they are called "buffers" and only have springs in them. The cars are pulled together by the coupling, compressing the springs. This arrangement limits the slack in trains.

Yes, it was a steam meet. The other engines were German and Polish.
