Re: Seen in Print
I snapped this photo today. Later I will mention what it is. There is a sign next to the door. Telling the rules of use. The whole thing is mind blowing to me and a big failure.

It's a quiet room. A study room. Our library is so loud. Nobody uses a whisper let alone their inside voice. People use the library as an entertainment center, watching youtube on the computers. Each person making their volume louder and louder so they can hear over the person sitting next to them. We have groups of 10-15 kids playing at any given time. Place is louder than a burger joint. Now for the quiet room. It has such a loud air filtration system that you can't hear yourself think, inside the room out outside. It also has AC. to cool you from the lights. Money well wasted. I doubt it will make it a year. Our library has a 40x40 room with chairs and tables that is only used in the mornings for special story time. why can't they use that for a quiet room?

That's ridiculous. Easy fix on the computer sound; that can be disabled and locked. Someone needs to needs to show a spine. Or, move all that to that 40x40 room with chairs and tables.
Apparently no one is actually in charge there or lacks a spine.
Our library is barely above a whisper - great resource and system for this county.

What ever happen to Shhh! Or for the less obedient. Shut the hell up you’re in a library. Sadly it’s been so long since I’ve been in a library I’m not even sure I would recognize what would be acceptable behavior by todays standards.
That’s pretty bad, a quiet room in what should already be a quiet room.

Your standards are what today's standards around here - someone is lacking a spine at roberts'

Well, we had closed carousel rooms that you could reserve at the library at every college I attended; privacy, locks, and isolation levels of quiet.
Never used one.....could not play Blue Oyster Cult there.

Lack of spine. Long gone are librarians with bifocals on a chain around their neck. 65 year old ladies that knew where every book was, when it was written, who published it. and what edition they had in their library. 9 out of ten employees are volunteers. 25 percent of the guest are homeless transients, only there for the internet. Another 25 percent are pre-school kids encouraged to run and play. All while mommy sits on her cellphone and yaps away. There is a group of guys playing chess. They're not that vocal. Neither is the group of teenagers studying. It really comes down to the selfish moms on their cellphone while their kids run free ( the library encourages kids playing). They have a corner of the building set aside for this. A playhouse, sliding board, huge blocks made of cushions, and a host of other noise making projects. The library's design probably aids in noise escalation. Gone are the floor to ceiling shelves. t's a large open space now. No long row of books. You won't get a trapped closed in feeling there.
Most people check books out online now. Your library card allows you to download books from HULU and other E sources. They have 100 different cake pans you can barrow, games, telescopes, a stud finder, Even a drain snake!

DelVal had closed in cubicles. A room about 8x8 with a cubicle in it. Your back faced a class door and wall. Allowing the librarian to see that no B.O.C. was going on in there.
