In the News
Re: In the News
The Atlantic Ocean is about three hundred feet to the east and there is a "canal" that connects to Biscayne Bay to the west but it is over 1000 feet west.
This entire area was a series of barrier islands/salt water marsh that protected the main shoreline (that is until about 100 years ago):

BTW, the debris pile is inherently deceptive in that the central part went down first (almost straight down) and then the extreme eastern end fell back partially on top of the center section.

A demolition crew couldn’t gave done it better. Nothing was removed or intentionally weakened. No TnT was used.

Yup! Watched the film of it collapsing - almost as clean as demo teams do taking down a building. That it did not fall over to one side might have kept this from being worse yet.

Wonder what happened to the water in the pool? Used for the emergency or leaked out? I know it's an odd question but wonder if the lack of water means anything if not used by the first responders.

I'd bet it lost integrity with the collapse and leaked

It's flowed into the basement garage. Photo's from the teams working down there show then wading around in waist deep water.
It's also highly likely that any water in what used to be the buildings plumbing wound up down there as well.

Yeah; bet that's just lovely to be wading around in.

Yeah; bet that's just lovely to be wading around in.
Main concern is there are a fair number of electric/hybrid vehicles that are crushed/crunched down there with potentially damaged Lithium batteries.

Oh yeah. Whatever was in the trunk, .....
I wondered about the pool too. It looks like it drained pretty quickly and any rain in the area is just heading down into the basement as well. I din't see any pumps working. Maybe they make too much noise for the rescue equipment/dogs working the area for potential survivors?

Hard to figure -- not enough info to speculate...

American West/Southwest : worst drought in 1200 years. The mountain ice caps have melted too far ahead of time , creating water problems for those states: one particular lake is down 80ft. We're in trouble.
