Anything new for painting delrin plastic

Looking on the internet about this subject I found most comments or posts to forums were made in early to mid 2000's, with the latest being 6-7 years ago. Is there anything new out there? I have some Chooch ladders,grabs and stirrups made of delrin I would like to install on some IM kits. I do have some Tichy phosphor bronze grabs I might use, but there are some unique based grabs that I can't find in metal.

I don't know about adhesive for Delrin but I do know it burns out well. Having said that we could cast them in brass.

Nothing directly; very little adheres well to Delrin.

I use a little Goo and then after removing the Delrin part, a little CA and replace.

Actually, there was a product on the market that was advertised as being an adhesive for Delrin and it cousins. If memory serves it was an epoxy and the smallest quantity you could purchase came in quart containers. Way more than I would ever need and kinda pricey.

This is what I'm doing with the infamous splitting Delrin sprockets.

Not exactly grabs but similar techniques to create brass versions.

The adhesive I mentioned was a "paint adhesive" to use as a base coat so other paints will adhere. Automotive industry uses it for plastic bumper and trim. I'm looking for a new paint that can used on delrin without using the automotive paint first. Not concerned with gluing delrin parts to Styrene.

Yes, there are some specialized epoxies; I used to have a sample of one for PE, another plastic just about impossible to bind to anything. Still took some surface prep steps.

Ok, I've not had problems painting Delrin parts but that's been with Floquil - Grandt Line stirrup steps were Delrin and a total PITA attaching to anything - just fall off leaving CA behind - , but never had painting problems.

Jay, you never have to butt out of any of my threads. I was rushing to get out to the garage (with a cane, looks like walker days are behind me) and snapped my response off too quickly. If my tone sounded gruff I apologize. I'm looking for all the help I can get and you and Martin certainly have more experience than I. You're right, I should have kept the thread anchored..my bad.

I'm going to have to try some once the weather is consistent; got 2 reefers to paint.....okay, 3, but only 2 have Delrin ladders - Berkshire Valley made them in Delrin and they are also brittle to get free of the sprues. Wish I had brass but you have to work with what you have,

At one time there was (or maybe still is) a product called MicroPrep. The label claims: "A solution that prepares slippery smooth surfaces for bonding and painting. A bottle I never opened sold some years back for $16 per ounce.

McMaster-Carr sells many Loctite products such as 7701 that "Improve instant-bond adhesive performance on hard-to-bond slippery plastics." At the moment a 1.75 ounce bottle of 7701 sells for $23.39. They also sell adhesives that are flexible (to withstand flexing of the Delrin) and ones designed for plastics such as polyethylene.

All this said, I haven't tried any of them.

By suggestion from others, I tried Tamiya spray paint made for RC cars. It seems those cars are made of very flexible plastic and need to bend when they hit things, like other cars. So I got some from a local hobby shop and painted the flexible handrails on Weaver and Red Caboose engines. It seems to work quite well and has not chipped off like floquil or scalecoat seems to.
