IMO every normal conversation drifts off topic except in formal debates. That does NOT include presidential or most political debates.
They don't seem to follow any rules.

That's why there are moderators to maintain some semblance of order....too many people with their own agendas.

MTJ is my favorite forum but I must say that it often has discussions that have little to do with trains.
The two rail section does talk about trains more than the others.
No, I didn't count posts or anything. That is just my impression.
It also seems to me that most of the forum members here want to
keep this forum small or they would make some kind of effort to
entice more posters to MTJ.

The problem with small is it somewhat limits discussions, as in coming up with interesting topics. I particularly enjoy seeing well conceived layouts/modeling, but they are not all that abundant, and I don't really care what scale if they are exceptionally well done.

New and interesting products....and, the occasional off the wall item, if it's good for a laugh.

this talk about the stripe on the Lionel J being the wrong shade of red reminds me of when the Lionel Pennsy GG1 had die parting seams on the roof. they sure got upset over that one.

I get a little upset when I see a Berkshire with Pennsylvania on the tender since I know the PRR never had one.
But if I wanted one I would get one.

None of those things upset me. They are all fixable. Things like incorrect passenger car roofs and boiler taper errors bother me because they are next to impossible to fix. Errors in window arrangements do not bother me, because my memory is not quite good enough. Take the Sunbeam, for instance. While if those cars are indeed BC, the windows are probably 100% correct, the only way for me to know for sure is to find a Sunbeam book. I will never descend to that level of rivet- counting.

I have NO issues with referencing NK or anything interesting anywhere for that matter, BUT is someone references something in another location, there should be a link to it. It's easy to do!

That's an invitation to anarchy. I think the policing on NK has been fairly even handed (at least what I've seen), but I wish they would just shut down the thread, and give their reason why they did so. Some folks might get educated, and some good information might be saved..........but there is the element of TIME!
