Over There
So the latest - an interesting thread on the N&W "J". It (the locomotive) is one of my favorites. About halfway down a very reasonable discussion a poster gets into a snit about not getting all personal about complaining about colors. The entire rest of the thread, so far, is quite reasonable - nobody rises to the bait.
I expect it to follow the pattern. Sooner or later someone will post "if you want to complain, start your own thread." Then we will be once again off to the races. Most over there do not like to have errors pointed out, and wish to ban those who dare.

Bob, Do us a favor please when you reference stuff.....put in a link, or at least tell us what sub-forum it is.

The whole thing amuses me. Not so much that they are b*tching about colors again, but where do they draw the line, as in what's acceptable and what's not, and how does the BIG L satisfy a multitude of expectations when there are people who will accept ANY fantasy/inaccurate paint scheme, to those that have to have it dead on to accurate to all expectations (if that is even possible).
PS: Weren't those color foul ups called collector's items not that long ago?

OGR is such fun. Where else would one get myriad threads devoted to Menard's latest fantasies?
And, when thread responders get their panties in a bunch, hell, it's better than the movies.

Dave,
One step at a time!
Re: Over There
FWIW, not much I suspect, I watched many passenger trains of various types on different railroads and seldom saw two cars in a row from the
same road that had exactly matching paint.
I think the only place I ever saw train sets with matching paint was when they were on display at the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1948 and 1949.
But I guess the paint must be just right on some model railroads.

Well, I agree that the paint stripe color is way, way off. My point was that it is entertaining to watch the crowd gradually move to the position that criticism is not allowed no matter what.

Criticism is NOT allowed. It's the way of the Left. The only opinion is yours, not mine. And if you disagree, I'll shout "racist" and the media will pick up on it, I'll lose my job, go to court, be exonerated...but nobody will remember that.
This is what you get, end result.
Oh, and if you're having trouble with folks believing you are right and your opinion is all that matters, yell louder.
Jump up and down.
I'm pretty sure they have instructional videos on oger just for that.

And rightly so. They are discussing toys, not scale models. Do you expect a toy to be 100% accurate to what it is representing? It's the same old stupidity every time. Worse yet they are expecting "perfect" color, which is something subjective at best.
If they want accuracy, they better start buying scale models. That won't guarantee 100% accuracy (as we know all too well) but at least it's a somewhat reasonable expectation.
Yes the color of the stripe is off......so is the middle rail.

I bet every local hobby shop has an office pool. They all try to pick what jerk will complain first and what the issue will be.

Don't forget, Dave - I am the token Liberal around here, and I am really big on freedom of expression, even on privately operated forums.
As to accuracy - Lionel has been doing some very good work, if you don't mind cleaning up behind them. I have an FEF, and with a Lobaugh frame, USH drivers, scale wheels elsewhere, and nickel silver side rods from my patterns, it is way better detailed than my USH version. And I have converted a pair of Lionel PAs (lucky guy that got those from the auction has Overland drives and trucks) and if they were not plastic I would own a bunch of them. Superbly done!

Bob,
I sometimes think your liberalism is a little on the token side.
Many of those on forums are very obvious about being conservative or liberal.
I'm not sure I would have known which you are without you telling us.

Except maybe if they start busting YOUR chops, then it ain't such a giggle.
As for Lionel, I think they are searching for their market, and they are not quite sure who they need to please. It's not like back in the day when we were kids, and they were the 500 pound gorilla under the Christmas tree. There is mucho competition out there now!

These "high end" models, given their prices, are advertised as scale. A bit of research would have revealed the proper color of the stripes and the engine number that goes with the crossheads. 3rd Rail enlists the help of knowledgeable folks to get their models right. Why can't Lionel & MTH do this?

For starters, where all the great, scale N&W J models?
Yes the color of the stripe is off......so is the middle rail.
Why don't you give the middle rail carping a rest? If the 2-rail community was bigger than a few dissatisfied old farts, there might be a market for, say, replacement wheelsets to make a 3-rail model good for the perfection crowd. Or, better, Lionel could offer their scale models in both 2- and 3-rail.
